I would think that you would have to pay sales tax too. Not to mention registration. So, winning a $40k vehicle for me would cost about $14k with income tax, sales tax and associated fees.
I doubt you’d have to pay any sales tax since you’re paying income (you didn’t buy anything).

Separately it would suck to win something like that and not have the liquidity to pay the taxes. I guess you could just sell it.

There’s a raffle for a 392 at Jeep Beach, got me thinking about it.

It could still be financed to pay the taxes. Not hard to do since the value would far exceed what’s required to cover the taxes.
