Hey Guys! My 2018 JL Sport 4 door, is giving me the message “vehicle not in park” and I can’t “turn off” the car (engine is not running, but is stuck in run mode it seems. Any thoughts about this? (34k miles)

Side Note; the jeep was sitting about 6 days while on vacay, and now won’t turnover at all to run... it’s also giving a warning of checking power steering, fluids look good

Just reading thru this and wondering how long it takes for this to happen. Going in for surgery Monday and will be out of commission for a few weeks. Jeep will be sitting in my shop.
Is it recommended to put a battery maintainer on for long periods of non use? If so will one attached to the main battery keep both charged? it is a 2021 3.0 diesel.
Thanks in advance for the help

Well, indeed you do have a battery(2) issue. Either one or both batteries is depleted/bad. Again, this is a battery(2) related issue.

If your vehicle is still under both 3 yrs. and 36,000 mi. do have the dealer fix under warranty.

Your JL, MUST be flat bedded to the dealer. Do not hook tow it there.

IF still under Warranty....Call FCA Road Service at Ph. 1-800-992-1997 and tell them you need it taken to dealership.. you are broken down.

They will arrange for and they will pay for, the trip to the nearest dealership. Must be nearest dealer or you will end up being billed for the flat bed.

You MUST specifically tell the agent that answers, that the owner's manual says Flat Bed only or you may very well not have a flat bed truck show up. Anyway, do not tow it, Flatbed it.

When at dealer... Ask the Service Writer allow you to speak to the Service Manager.

POLITELY, ask the Servcie Manager (not Service Writer) that when the Tech does the LOAD TEST on each battery that they keep the paper printouts (2) for you to see. This will hopefully assure that they indeed do a load test on each. You want the load tests and BOTH batteries replaced (if they do not meet specs) as you will soon be out of warranty. Your batteries are/have aged out pretty much at 3 yrs..

Important - Forgot to mention..

When the flat bed truck shows up, if the truck driver cannot get your JLU to roll freely, do use the Manual Park Release tether.. Read below:

When you gently pull the tether, listen carefully. As soon as you hear the/a slight, audible click, stop pulling right then.

Thanks for this in-depth response. I don’t think my battery is under warranty as I am the second owner of this vehicle, and it appears the battery warranty applies only to the original owner. I’m going to replace the batteries on my own as the dealer is charging towards 500 to replace to two batteries.

Check your battery voltage. Sounds like it sat for a while with the usual parasitic draw and now voltage is too low for it to figure out what the heck is going on. It's also a 2018, right about the time for batteries to need replacing.
Going to give this a try, thanks for that!

Also, forum search in regard to TSB 18-092-19 and how it inpacts the way most 2018 JL/JLU's behave in regard to the Dual Battery System...how your JL/JLU behaves when the Aux battery depletes/dies.

Went to the dealership and got a new battery and I’m back in action! I tried recharging my original battery but that did not resolve it. Getting a new (main) battery resolved the issue! Thanks for the help man!
@KCWranglerMan

Good you are "back in action" but you do need to address your Aux battery also.

Since you have a 2018, it is highly likely..... unless TSB 18-092-19 has been applid to your 2018..... that when your Aux battery dies/depletes, that even though you have a new Main battery that you will be faced again with a no start situation...

Sweet! I’ll look into these when deciding the setup/replacing the battery.

Looks like I got the same problem on a 2021 ecodiesel. Sucks that a car can die while running if battery is faulty. Blocked starbucks drive-thru for hours waiting on a tow truck.

Saw the park disconnect procedure too late, but now I know.
