had to make an extended trip, when I got to my hotel I got a “service transmission” warning, putting it in park gives flashing P indicators on shifter and dash. Turning the Jeep off in this state doesn’t shut down the instrument cluster. It just flashes P and says “Service Transmission/set park brake to prevent rolling”. I’ve not heard any unusual sounds and it seems to run fine in Drive and Reverse. There’s a local dealership in the next town I can hit tomorrow, but I’m thinking I’ll need to disconnect the battery overnight so I don’t kill the battery.

Any thoughts or advice?

This is one silly safety software feature I really dislike on my jeep. How many times I want to just have the door open and back up a little bit or forward and see the tire but no jeep won’t allow it ! BUT They fully allow you to take the doors completely off , Lose your mirrors. oh then you could put it in park or drive anytime you want. how stupid.

Got back into town yesterday. Problem ended up being a small rock lodged in the Parking Release system, so it was throwing an error. You'd think for a vehicle designed to go off road small rocks wouldn't be a problem. Also foreign objects don't fall under warrantee work, so there was some out of pocket labor costs. My biggest gripe here would def be that the error/warning on the cluster does not have any way to be cleared and no timeout, so the cluster ran all night. Between the battery, the ESS battery, and the eTorque battery, i wasn't sure what to disconnect where, so I had to deal with a dead vehicle in addition to the transmission problem.

Wow, what a PITA. Now we gotta worry about little rocks on our Jeeps...sigh...

This exact thing happened to my Rubicon. Garage just called and said it was a rock. I asked if there was a way to prevent this and he said they tried a cover of some sort but that just filled with dirt and caused problems. Was told warranty does not cover but didn’t dare ask jow much it would cost me. Guess I will find out tomorrow when I go pick it up. How disgusting! They just don’t make things like they used to.

Same issue happened to me after wheeling yesterday in sandy/ wet dirt roads. I sat for 15min, rolled the Jeep backwards about 10 feet & then it worked again with a “service transmission “ error message. This too cleared after driving and it’s now working fine. Unsure if I should take to dealer tomorrow or not. Very unnerving.

I am going thru similar issue. Dealer can't figure it out and I am curious where the rock actually is getting lodged at.

Be at the dealership since Monday. "parts came in, but didn't fix like the diag said it would. looking at it & going back and forth with Jeep trying to figure out what's going on. We have a module that's not powering down & leaving stuff turned on. "

I suggested they look for the rock lodge in the parking release system or they could just keep replacing parts and might eventually end up with a 392 in it.

Put your seatbelt on when you do that and it WILL allow the Jeep to move with the door ajar/open.
You could also buy a programmer that allows you to disable that feature.
