So I tore the entire left side of the Jeep apart yesterday. I fully removed the soft top and all of the plastic surrounding the drivers side of the roll bar. Creaking sound is STILL THERE!!!!!!! This is so frustrating. I have made an appointment with my dealership for Tuesday the 9th. Now comes the fun part of trying to get a ride to work since I’m a teacher and they won’t take this Jeep on a Saturday. Let the massive inconveniences begin! I’ll keep everyone updated.

Hi NOVAJL,
I completely understand how frustrating this probably is. We're happy to see that you plan to have your dealer look into this though. You can send us a private message if you would like an added layer of assistance while your Jeep is being serviced.

I will PM you when I have an appointment scheduled. Thank you for your help on this.

I did the exact same thing. I had my wife listen as I applied pressure to the role bar and b pillar. My sound is definitely coming from inside the upper few inches of the B pillar.

Nope! I'm going to start lemon process for a frame issue. I have discovered that I am missing a weld on that side. That, in and of itself, warrants a buy back.

I had my husband drive around while I hung out the top of the Jeep with my ear to the roll bar. It is most definitely inside where all of those metal plates connect. I also discovered that I'm missing a weld on that side. It is present on the passenger side but not the driver's side. The noise it MUCH worse on hot days when the metal has had a chance to expand. Tomorrow is the day that I start this painful process.

The weld missing is it on the top roll bar or not he frame itself? Also have you checked another JL to see if its present there? I'm just wondering if its specific to yours. Can you take a pic? Now I'm curious to see if mine has that too.

I'm interested in pics too. What are everyone's build dates? Mine is 6/16. The noise has gotten worse for sure.

I had a creak I could not figure out for the life of my on the passenger side near the grab handle. Mine turned out the be the far right windshield bolt. There's 4 total.

I had taken the windshield down to put a sunshade on. After a month or so that bolt worked itself out to damn near finger tight. So apparently when I bolted it back up it was not on tight enough. I tightened them all down again for good measure and problem went away. So perhaps grab your Jeep tool kit and check they are tightened down. Mine ended up being a 30 second fix.

First pic is driver’s side. Second is passenger side. That plate runs down the B pillar and meets where the seat belt is attached. I believe that’s the part that’s creaking with body flex. I haven’t had the chance to check other JLs yet as I just discovered this while tearing plastic parts off the roll bars in a desperate attempt to find the metal-on-metal creaking sound that has gotten so bad it makes me grind my teeth out of frustration.

I wish it were that simple. This is most definitely coming from the B pillar. I can put my ear up to it and hear it clearly coming from that convergence of metal plates and parts. Unfortunately it’s down inside where I can’t get to it.

Thanks for posting. I will check mine as well. What is your build date?

Trying to weld something like that after the fact would be near impossible without destroying the paint and looking like crap afterward.
Technically it could be done quite easily. Isolate the area, Sand blast the paint off. Do some tac Welds and repaint with the spray paint Mopar Color match paint, and apply a clear coat spray paint. That area is really unseen anyway. Half the paint on the interior of the jeep behind panels, etc is crappy anyway.

To the OP, Try shoving some strong Rubber in there and see if that helps.
