Whenever Im at a stop light and step on the gas, it sounds like my Jeep is clearing its throat and then its fine. Or if Im going up a hill and give it some juice to go, "clearing of the throat" sound.

anyone else?

Is this an ESS restart or just the deep sound you hear when the throttle opens up and you're really getting into your low end torque?

Its not a restart noise and its not a deep acceleration noise. More like loose flatulence to be honest.

To be honest, I wasn't able to recreate the sounds you were describing yesterday on my drive home. What that may be is an exhaust leak somewhere in between the muffler and the cat. Improperly installed exhaust components, or punctured... Hopefully not rusted through...

I'm not a mechanic, so please don't quote this as scripture. Just an Idea of what you may be hearing.

I hear this sound every now and then, in gear, and underway. Usually happens as I'm coasting and decide to give her a little gas. "Throat clearing" is a very apt description. It also reminds me of the characteristic diesel engine sound. Regardless, it lasts for about a second, and usually comes a couple of seconds after power starts getting to the drive train. I had assumed it was something with the clutch (I learned stick on this JL essentially - there have been more than a few instances of rough treatment :angel: ). OP - manual or automatic?

automatic.

yes throat clearing. usually 1-2 seconds long with 4-5 "cycles" or flaps or vibrations or whatever the heck that this that makes the noise. any time gas pedal is INCRMENTALLY depressed at speeds under 50.

Can't tell if this is coming from exhaust or some other source in the whole power sequence.

Have not tried it in neutral but that will be nice lunch time break. Gonna visit the dealer but Im sure they will say "its normal its a jeep." To which I will say OK lets go test drive one right now.

Could this be the engine knocking things that someone raised that Jeep has said is "normal"
