Got the B9A and defroster recalls done. All modules were updated.

They must have added further battery diagnostics because since I’ve had the Jeep back it has thrown P0BBD (Hybrid Battery Pack Voltage Variation Exceeded Limit) three separate times. Each time the CEL will be on for a day or so and then clear.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Also, I continue to deal with it dropping out of electric when there’s plenty of charge. Majority of time it is when I am being intentionally light on the throttle. It seems like now the throttle mapping is even lighter before dropping out… but I could be imagining it. When I brought it in a month ago, they couldn’t trace it to anything and just said it was “normal operation”, which sounds like a copout. In my simple mind it seems like it’s another symptom of a bad battery.

Any recommendations on what I can do at the dealership to convince them this isn’t normal operation?

That code indicates you need the HV battery replaced. This is the code that throws after the most recent BPCM update has been performed for the B9A recall. The BPCM now has its own logic to determine a failing battery on its own.

Take it back to the dealer and be prepared to not get it back for at least thirty days. I've got two on order right now that's been ordered by STAR ~3 weeks ago and they still aren't here.

The code needs to be stored in the system before STAR will order the battery. If it's somehow fully clearing itself that is weird. I'd suggest just swinging by the dealer the next time it happens so they can scan it. If they're telling you it's normal operation then whomever you're speaking with is ignorant.

Thank you @alphawolff, appreciate the feedback on this. Definitely suspect it’s a bad HV battery - I will swing by the dealer this week and post up when I know more.

I had this code in January, towed from my house with service hybrid system. STAR said it needed HV battery however they would not allow the install until after the recall was released. Called originating dealer who diagnosed issue for the repair once the recall was released. They had to send me to another dealer outside of my area as no one with 50 miles was able to repair. My vehicle was at that dealer for 14 days for recall and the aforementioned code. They did not put battery in it said it was functioning as designed. 3 days later same CEL came on. The code was P0BBD again. Played games with dealer as service writer kept blowing me off. Code goes off every few days. The interesting thing is that when the CEL light is active my vehicle will charge on it's own from less than one percent to 13 percent max. I actually recorded it charging on my ODB scanner. If the CEL light is off the vehicle will act psuedo normal except it will charge faster than normal. Less than two hours on level 2. I am back at dealer again now waiting for them to figure it out. They just wont believe me it is my battery. My STAR case allegedly said I needed one but this dealer knows more. FRUSTRATING

Translation: Replacing the battery is a pain in the ass and it doesn't pay well. Please go away.

It's the unfortunate reality of the current technician shortage. Hopefully they get your battery replaced now that it's finally back at the shop. Do note is takes easily 30+ days for the new one to come in.

Update: I now have an approved STAR case to replace the HV battery. The dealership has had my 4xe for about 3 weeks now. The hardest part is they don’t have any details on when battery will come in.

It would be great if they could give my Jeep back in the meantime given that it’s drivable. I at least got luck enough to get a ‘24 Sahara as a rental!

Good news! Got a surprise call today that the Jeep was done, new HV battery installed. Picked it up and drove it home. Was great to finally be back in it.

Bad news: I was just about home and the rear locker icon on the dash started blinking. Kidding me??? I never had that issue before either. Checked OBD scanner and no codes. The last thing I want to do is take it back to the dealer.

Is it maybe because it was sitting so long and that sensor connector was just soaking in oil? Love this vehicle but it is seriously killing me.

Most likely a failed rear locker sensor. Very common.
