I mean the range isn’t that critical. I feel like because of the EV revolution people really care about range. And yeah it matters A LOT in a full EV. PHEV’s have another source of power though. A 50 mile range would just make it a little cheaper to drive. It wouldn’t really change anything else.
That's a very very good point. Makes me think - if you actually off-road you're really buying the extra torque, which theoretically should be available even when the battery is depleted. You're right, probably range improvements won't be as much as an impact as for other PHEV or full EVs.

Used Gen 3 ecodiesel all the way.
My understanding is that the diesels aren't great for low mile commutes and if they're not ran more than 20 miles / day pretty frequently then they will have build up that will cause issues around 50k miles+

Is that true?

Diesel = rural roads cruising at 50-60mph, diesel dominates. Yes diesels prefer running at operating temp.
4xe = suburbia, high population density, lower speeds, lots of stops and go, 4xe’s will be way more efficient than any other powertrain.

I would not buy the 4xe if I lives in a rural area. Less stopping = less regen and less advantage over gas.

I don’t know how true it is that it’ll cause buildup, I’ve seen that mentioned but not sure if that’s a fact or not. There’s quite a few folks on here that short trip theirs a lot and haven’t had any issues aside from once in a while having to let it run through an active regen. Do you only drive very short trips all day every day? If so, a Scangauge will tell you your soot level and if there’s a regen going or not.
