I have a 2019 Tacoma on 33s and the 2020 Jl on 37 has a way better engine and trans combo. I only drive my Tacoma in sport mode and it's much more fun this way, but there's no denying that it's a lackluster platform

Now off-road in Sprt mode using 1-2nd gear, it's a blast to drive. On the street sucks soooo so much

I’m jumping into a Toyota again so I can avoid trips to a dealership every other month... :)
I'm a bit envious lol, me and my Unrely-acon have a love hate relationship.

I agree. MY JL’s V6 and 8sp was a way better combo than what’s in my Tacoma. But I dont miss the issues the JL was giving me one bit!! Worst case I just add a TURBO to the tacoma in a few years.

Best of luck on your new truck! I'm sure it'll be nice not having to deal with the Jeep dealers lol. Although I really really do love my Jeep!

I.. don't think I could own a "turd pro" hehe. :D

Seriously though, take care! :)

Whenever people start mentioning Tacomas I always think of the "Toyota of Shame" from some truck competition I found on YouTube while mindlessly browsing years ago. I wanna say it was Top Gear but I honestly don't remember. The three or four guys had tiny budgets to build up off-road trucks and do challenges. They all picked old American brands, and if your truck broke down and just couldn't go any further, they'd pick you up in this brand-new "Toyota of Shame" and you'd continue to follow the remaining competitors.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? It was pretty entertaining, but old at this point.

Power seats are an improvement, and I’m able to get reasonably comfortable at 5’9”. If I was two inches taller I think it would be challenging.

The transmission tuning is different for 2020, which is why I went with the new one rather than a deal on an outgoing 2019. Still has the same “meh” torque, but is not doing the eternal shifting gears on the highway, and is quite responsive around town. Not as much guts and glory as my JL, but adequate.

Overall, happy with the trade. Already pondering 35’s, but I’ve got a new surgical practice to get going in TN, so having a reliable truck that I don’t have to worry about was my primary motivation.

And the trd pro is for the suspension, which is quite nice. I’ll be able to fit 33’s with a little trimming, and it absorbs bumps at high speeds much better than my JL (even with a icon stage 8 suspension!) though obviously flexes just a little more than a skateboard :)

Only pictures I’ll post of the truck here :)

Won’t effortlessly climb over everything, but it was a good trade.

Already planning my next JL build a few years from now :) I’m thinking yellow or orange.
