Spotted a 23 Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sport 6MT with manual locks/windows and no options whatsoever (just the way I like it, aside from missing the LSD) sitting on the dealer lot for 7 months. MSRP $36825, asking price $29574. Would it be reasonable to push them lower without sounding insulting? On one hand I haven't seen a sub $30k JL in a long while, on the other Gladiators are known to be offered for close to 30% off. It is not apple to apple comparison, or is it? Thanks!

That is the cheapest new 23 on Autotrader nationwide. I'd be more concerned that it's a BS price you'd have to qualify for 18 rebates to get.

I phoned them and the truck is still there. It is 40 miles from me so I'll go to take a look tomorrow, but it goes against the basic premise of the auto trade not to negotiate with the dealer...

Who else would you negotiate with? The dealer is the party selling the vehicle, no? I've never not negotiated pricing with any dealer I purchased a vehicle from.

Sorry I must have made it more clear: Is the consensus here is that the dealer's offered price is so great already that any further haggling is just insulting, or can the deal be improved upon further? Even for the cheapest truck in existence.

Any deal can be made better.

It is a matter of knowing how.

There's no down side to negotiating. Worst case scenario, you walk away. There's always a deal out there somewhere.

The price is now 18% under MSRP. Would asking for 25% off be unreasonable? How about 30% off?

No, sorry. No reason not to try. I'd expect them to do the same thing to get the price up.

Being a manual, and having no options is why that JL is sitting. Few say that is the best way to go but most do not. Can't hurt to ask for 25% off, all they can say is no.

if you never ask the answers always NO, who cares about "insulting" them, they are in the business of selling steel, they are paying floorplan on that unit every month. Offer them $25,000....never know

Why not? If the vehicle has been sitting on the lot a while, they likely want it gone. As mentioned above , it never hurts to ask. If you don't like the final price they offer, walk away.

Their fees don't look bad. $85 doc fee, $29 electronic filing. May have one of the crap dealer add-ons packages on it, so I'd check for that when you get there. If your financing, I'd get a credit union quote before going.

They're claiming the full discount is by dealer. May want to see if there are any rebates available. See if there are any bonus cash offers in the area, too.

I'd be in there lowballing the shit out of them. No dealer in America wants to sit on a car for 7 months. Start low and let them try to bring the price up while keeping it well below today's asking number.

get pre-approved for a loan. load the VIN into Carmax or Carvana put in say 1000 miles and see what its trade in value would be, then make offer. Save a ton, its moves some steel for them and bang you get a sweet deal and maybe your not thousands of dollars upside down from the start
