Closest RV camping spot is Ice House Resort.

Closer still, is the forest service campground at Loon Lake. I don't think there are any hookups there.

I splurged on the thickest exped megamat duo camping pad. We threw that on a slab of granite on the rubicon and it was almost as nice as our bed. Paired with a tent we can stand in and a bucket toilet and my wife was happy. Still.. not a hotel.

The Rubicon is right up the road from me and we do lots of day trips out there. You CAN go all the way through in one day. At a good pace and no mechanicals, you can do it in 8-10 hours, but the trail isn’t a trophy. You have to spend a few nights out there to really enjoy it for what it is. My favorite approach is to camp at Buck Island the first night, then wheel over to the springs and camp there for a night, then wheel out the 3rd day and grab a burger near Tahoe.
Pitch a tent, bring a cot, a cooler with some cold ones, swim in the springs, look at the stars enjoy the journey.

You young\healthy bucks are preaching to the choir. But, just can't do what the body use to. Driving thru the area I could not miss the OPT for running the trail. Just trying to make it work for our situation. A post has been made about ICE House camp. Is this a place I could drive a 40ft motorhome into pulling my jeep? If so, could I run part of the trail from there?

You can drive a larger motorhome up and camp near loon and do “some” of the Rubicon for the day, but you’ll be coming back out the same way if not camping out there. There’s no way to access the middle of the trail, just the ends (Loon lake or near Tahoma on The Tahoe side).

A day trip into Little Sluice and back is a nice day run from Loon.

Is this the entrance from Tahoma? If so, would find a camp somewhere on west side and drive this as far as I could.

What would be a good stopping point to return from this entrance? If returning means I would be in the way of most all others let me know. Don't want to make life worst.....

Thought about the lake Loon side, but that is a real winding trip up to the lake with the 40fter towing jeep.

the only "place" to stay is the place you bring with you. and it would be a pity to rush through in 1 day, or not stay and enojoy being out there once you're there.
would your wife consider an RTT? works for us,..

Wanting to do the trail next year, but need a place with bed to do overnight stay since it takes multiple days to do the rubicon. (no camping) Can someone share any info on reserving a cabin, etc for a night on trail. There will be 3 of us. Thanks!

Having done the Rubicon several times, and having owned a motorhome myself, I personally would not drive a 40 ft motorhome towing a Jeep to Loon Lake.

I was very much thinking the same as u. Not worth the effort or risk for damage. Looks like my 2nd attempt to get my feet wet on the RT is a wash again. Maybe I will try again next year......I will wave as I pass by.

I also thought about towing my JLR to the campground behind my Class C RV. I wouldn't feel comfortable to leave the RV unattended for a couple nights while on the trail.
