I just acquired my first Jeep. It has the Mopar steel bumpers. I am trying to decide if I want to take the wings off the front of not. I am not going to be adding tires that would need the extra clearance. So, this mod is pretty much cosmetic.

help with pros and cons?

the only ones I can think of are;

pro:
A little lighter on the front So might help a little bit with suspension sag when winch is added.

con:
Less protective in an accident (urban daily driver).

The removable bumper wings don't weigh enough to affect suspension height.

As for looks, in my opinion, removing them adds to the aggressiveness of the front end. Functionally, running without them helps to further reduce the limitations of approach angle. Envision climbing a rock taller than the bumper. Drive straight at it and the bumper hits before the tires. Hit it at an angle so the tires can grab hold and start climbing to lift the bumper above the rock, than turn back into it to stay level enough o keep climbing.

As for cons, you already mentioned the only one I can think of for running in stubby mode. If things were to go soft brown out on the road, the wings would dig in and rip at the other vehicle. With them off, the spinning tires would make contact and, with the help of momentum, the jeep would take flight and end in a barrel roll. That would definitely increase the amount of damage to the jeep and those inside.

I ran mine with the wings/ends for a short while. I think they looked good but my problem was that any rain or water puddle whatsoever would make the ends filthy dirty with spray from the tires while the rest of the bumper stayed fairly clean looking. Clearly just a vanity thing but it looked horrible to me. I removed the ends and have been happy ever since. Love the aggressive look.
