You can't really go wrong with a MaCallen. They rarely disappoint. In my experience, while delicious, they don't have the depth of flavor that others will have.@Goin2drt , @bondijoe , @CJACKZ , @MRH512 , (and all the rest of this thread's participants) I told my best friend my intentions and he surprised me with this.
Distiller.com rates it as Rich and Full Bodied. 86 proof.
He said this would be good sharing whisky for special times.
I know it's not the recommended whiskies y'all suggested which I plan to sample, but I thought it was a gesture worth sharing. I believe he's a good friend, don't you think?
As whiskey goes Scotch, even top quality single malt like you’ve got, tends to be very much an acquired taste for most people.@Goin2drt , @bondijoe , @CJACKZ , @MRH512 , (and all the rest of this thread's participants) I told my best friend my intentions and he surprised me with this.

I’m not big into scotch there are only a few that I care for. Some in the Macallan series and a few from Highland Park. It was certainly nice of your friend to think of you, and hopefully you will enjoy it! Let us know how it goes.[ATTACH type="full" alt="IMG_5762.jpg" said:522075[/ATTACH]

After reading through this thread I respect your opinion. But in my case I think that will be true about anything I try. Don't you?Scotch tends to be very much an acquired taste for most people.
That may be true but some are easier to start out with than others. Eagle Rare is a smooth lower proof bourbon that just about anyone can enjoy. Also, if you get you hands on a bottle of Jack Daniels No. 27 Gold it will likely keep you hooked. I’m finding now I’m enjoying the higher proof bourbons. I’ve got a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batch C918 bottled at 131.4 proof and it is delicious. You wouldn’t think something that high would be so smooth but it hits all the right notes. After reading through this thread I respect your opinion. Or is there that one whiskey that I'm going to love after the first taste? I don't know and of course nobody else does either but am eager to get started with the suggestions I received first.
Headed to the ABC store today.
I would agree. If you literally have never had Bourbon, you will not like it but keep giving it a go. Once you start liking it then you get hooked and can really start telling the difference. The suggestions most gave are to “ease” into the spirit. After reading through this thread I respect your opinion. But in my case I think that will be true about anything I try. Don't you?

At least where I live in Florida there isn’t much I would buy at ABC. They have a. Lot of the run of the mill stuff some of which tastes good, but their good stuff they lock in a vault program and you have to buy X amount of nonsense to get to it. The hole in the wall liquor stores are where the good stuff is. I do have a couple of places I frequent because they have a great selection and you can actually get good bourbon, but I also stop at a bunch of random stores when I’m out and about. Of course it’s hit or miss but sometimes you can get into some really good juice at these no name stores. Good luck! The hunt is always fun..

Wow! that's good to know. Thanks. The hole in the wall liquor stores are where the good stuff is
Sounds like a fun event. I have a bottle of Elijah 18, and had a bottle of Michters 10. It was EXCELLENT.The Total Wine event I was talking about earlier was Thursday night. Buffalo Trace did not bring out all the good stuff like they did a couple years ago. They had one bottle of Stagg, a bottle of Handy, and some Bowman, etc. The only cool bourbon (for the area) on the concierge list was Elijah 18, Michters 10, and some Blackened signed by Metallica. I was too slow for the Elijah or Michters but did manage a bottle of the signed Blackened. While I'm not really a huge fan of the whiskey, I do like Metallica.
