I'm looking at installing the mopar brake controller which seems to take the place of the current 12v plug in the dash, but I would still like one up front and wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket market plug somewhere else upfront? If so what was used? I'm guessing as well to tap into the "current/old" plug for power.

Thoughts?

Lots to pick from. By way of example, I used this one to good effect in other applications.

I do presume you want charging capability, and not a literal socket for a cigar lighter. ;)

I like that, since it may actually power tge USB C with proper voltage. Although I was looking to install a "cigarette " style so other 12v/car accessories could be plugged in (like a smaller air compressor)

Depending on options the oem plug can be used with some trimming.

I have the Mopar controller and the advantage is the factory look, and plug-and-play nature of the install. Other than that, it's just a brake controller.

I use a Redarc Elite something-something in my Freightliner-chassis motorhome. One thing I appreciate about that is it automatically calibrates the braking force needed after a couple of uses with the trailer connected. I don't really like the controller/knob setup...it's very small, and it lights up all different colors depending on the gain. It may be more than a brake controller needs to be.

I went with the Mopar controller in our Wrangler. Works fine, no issues, removing the 12v plug is the hardest part of the install.
Fast forward a 1.5 years and I went with the RedArc Liberty in our Gladiator. Works pretty much the same, similar install, but didn't remove the 12v plug. The Liberty is roughly half the price of the Mopar. Also, no replacement of the 12v cigarette plug needed.

You could do the same with a cig plug and not a dual USB as is shown.

I went right to battery with this.

Edit - manual transmission (unsure if the auto has the same amount of room behind the shifter area)

I'd like something like thos but just a "cigarette" style plug so I can use an air compressor or other items that utilize that style of plug.

Yes I understand LOL. The cig plug takes up the same real estate which is why I posted that picture to show a potential placement for you.

I like Powerwerx for various plugs including a cig version of that.

Thanks for the info and insights, I do like the relocation area.
By chance does anyone know what plug can be used to connect/make an extension to the new plug using the original pigtail in the dash?

I think most guys ae using the Quadratec harness that piggybacks off the cigarette lighter but I didn't want to tear the dash apart because on the 2024+ it looks like a PITA. I just ran mine to battery because that was way easier... plus I'd rather have the socket powered all the time. I guess if you are removing the cig plug to mount the trailer brake controller you are already in there so it's not a big deal.

That cable looks like a dogs breakfast....I'd rather make my own but I need the plug. Hopefully someone will know the part number/where to order.
