I have a Genesis system and "hate" the fact I can only run group 25 Odyssey batteries. Luckily, my Odyssey batteries died slow enough for Genesis to get be a pair of replacements from Odyssey. I don't know what I'm gonna do in the future if these new ones get weak outside of the 3 year warranty. I may just swap out the positive and negative cables on the Jeep and allow me to run group 35's, which are more common. I'm also in a bad spot because I bought the system from Genesis that only fits the Odyssey's weird shaped batteries. I bought into this system too early as the new version allows any shaped group 25's to fit.

I hear you and what you state is the reason I am contemplating my other options.

We offer a significant discount for our customers that want to upgrade to the new tray that can hold other brands besides Odyssey. See this article for more details -

I'm curious if you ever swapped out the cables to be able to run Group 35 batteries? I've been looking at the full dual battery kit since December researching prior to ordering a new Wrangler. I just put in my order and periodically checking AutoZone and Odyssey's own website since late December, their group 25 AGM batteries have been out of stock and unavailable at any location near me as well as unavailable to ship to home. I really like the idea of the kit and it looks like it works well; the availability of the batteries is really the only downside that makes me reluctant.

I'm thinking I'll run the stock batteries until they either have issues or when I end up putting a winch on it in about a year. Then I might just install the full dual battery kit and re-wire it to support Group 35 batteries. I'm wondering how the Gen3 power hub would work when switching the battery post positions due to the Group 35 batteries. I'm guessing @Genesis Offroad could make one with slightly longer leads that crisscross so the positive post would be toward the front of the jeep and the negative would be toward the rear (or I guess I could just get the universal one and cut the wires down myself to fit.)

I am leaning harder towards installing the Genesis G3 system and ripping out the OEM garbage, but when searching for Group 25 batteries, they do not appear to be very popular and AGM seems to be even more limited in that BCI size. The fact that I can only find one "normal" AGM battery in Group 25 size is a reason for pause.

I also see that dimension wise Group 35 batteries appear to exchange with Group 25 but would need to research that further to make sure they are truly compatible.

Any others to add? Alternately, are there other group numbers that fit the Genesis system that I have not considered?

I did the genesis system couple years ago then upgraded with the new system 3 and purchased the full river batteries. Still going strong. Expensive but worth it and everything was ordered through Genesis off road and arrived super fast. I also installed the g-screen and the sensor wire that runs to a tap in the fuse box. Watch the video from Genesis and you can't go wrong. What ever battery you choose, charge them over night to 100 percent prior to install. I also installed a on board noco charger/maintainer. I think you will be happy with the system. If I can do it anyone can.

Too late...I moved to the dark side where they can actually engineer a vehicle with ESS that only uses a single battery that works.

Well, the worry about group 25 battery availability is real. I tried to start my jeep this morning and it was dead. I was getting worried about my batteries having been discharged and recharged so many times, and I also noted that the had a slight puffed out shape near the bottom when they were out for the engine change. The primary battery seemed to need charging a suspicious amount of times. My batteries are maybe 4 years old...not sure.

I'm planning on leaving for the Rubicon trail in the morning. I was thinking maybe it wasn't meant to be.

I got online and started looking for ANY group 25 agm battery. After a handful of calls, it looked bad. I found this thread and read about the cars a group 25 fits. It didn't seem to help the search.

Being desperate, I looked up the Odyssey dealers and started calling. Not something anyone seemed to stock. Finally, I called 4WheelParts Warehouse. Not always my first choice, but I've bought a lot from them over the years. The local store didn't have one, but he looked up stores that had them. He started with "Stockton (I thought: 'that could work'), Bakersfield (that could work too), Temecula (ugh), then he said "West Covina". I could make that work right away. It's right at an hour from the house.

I called ahead and had the guy check he actually saw the battery on the shelf and asked that either he hold it or I would pay for it over the phone. He said he'd hold it and I told him my name.

It's installed and I'm up and running. But yeah, group 25 is a rare battery, even in southern California.

For what its worth in another thread Shane noted that Genesis stocks the Full River G25 and ships to your door; IIRC I think he said they ship overnight. Obviously doesn't solve a problem that day like a trip to the local parts store would; but still isn't too terrible.

I'm hoping to get at least 3 years on the factory batteries before I need to make a decision. Apparently Full River is also trying to expand their availability to one of the major parts stores as well; may that will happen before I need a replacement so it'll be easier to find one locally.

I've been leaning more toward getting the dual battery kit once my factory batteries die; and getting a pair of Full River from Genesis at that time. Then assuming they last a bit longer than their warranty I'd be pushing around the 7 or 8 year mark and might be more inclined to rewire to support group 35s at that point if its still cumbersome to find group 25s.

Yes, we stock both Full River and Odyssey Group 25 in our office close to Memphis, and most orders placed by 3pm Central time ship out the same day.

We get monthly deliveries direct from the factories so our batteries are always fresh.

I recently had to replace one of my Odyssey group 25 batteries. The new one carried the same number, but was about 1/4" taller. It actually sticks out of the battery box.

That's ok. We have seen some slight variation in the overall height of the Odyssey batteries. I talked to them about that, they said it's due to how their robotic assembly line presses the top cover down onto the shell of the battery case. But it shouldn't cause any issues with our kit.

None... but it pays well.
There is a LifePo4 battery that was tested on Hellcats and pushed at the perf Dodge Boys. Lighter and 1000 CCA. A full charge within minutes. The charging system is built in and can be directly installed to any 12v charging system. Dodge so happens to be its testing base when developing in its final phase. Can post a link... the last time it got shot down, so that's that.

Jump starting this old thread LOL. I realize the limitation of the factory battery cable length is the driver for the group 25 selection. But, is changing the cables practical to allow use of the group 35?

I picked up a genesis kit a while ago and havent installed it yet cause $600+ in batteries is less important than some of the other things I need to get done. If we can make some 35s work that would be awesome.

Yeah it's a bit of a pisser when you go to buy batteries. Finding a group 25 locally is a crapshoot, even in southern california. I can find a 800 CCA Duralast Platinum AGM group 35 for $100 less per battery than the Full River or Odyssey.
