In the past if I have not driven my 2020 JLU for a week or so, when I try to start it the battery is seems to be dead. I believe it has something to do with the start stop (which does not work) auxiliary battery and have taken it into the dealership on each occasion. They have replaced the aux battery and the start stop will function for a day or two. I am planning on leaving it while on vacation for two weeks and am considering disconnecting the battery while away. I would like to get the forum's input on whether or not this is a good idea. Thanks

Start using a 10amp battery tender maintainer that is aok for an AGM battery when the vehicle is just sitting there... while you are away on vacation.

Hook the battery tender maintainer pos and neg clamps to the pos and neg terminals on the Main battery.... Do this and the battery tender maintainer will do the deed for both the Main and the Aux battery.

The problem I have is that I do not have access to power for a battery tender.

Do you have access to sunlight?
Search for "Solar Panel Battery Charger and Maintainer". You don't need a lot of power to maintain the idle batteries. A small solar panel will do the job.

Thanks for your input. I remembered I have a 20w solar panel that I use to keep the house batteries charged on our motorhome and will be using that. Again, thanks for your input.

I use a cheap tender from Menards.

Its attached to the wall and stays plugged in.

Than I got a long lead off amazon and attached it to the battery.

When I pull in I plug in and forget it.

Problem with a 1.5 amp tender/maintainer is that such a low amp tender/maintainer drops the ball in regard to the Main battery.

Perhaps @OldGuyNewJeep will clue you in on this as a low amp tender maintainer bit him/his JL.

Also... is this tender/maintainer meant to be used on AGM batteries?

Suggest you get a decent battery tender maintainer. Go with a 10 amp one. i.e. Noco 10 battery tender / maintainer or other..

Disconnect the batteries, that is what I do when it's stored. I don't trust those maintainers to not blow a cheap internal component and cook the battery all over my engine.

I rigged this set-up because I suspect the secondary is already not holding a charge and is draining the primary.

This is keeping my stock batteries charged. When I pull in the garage the batteries are charged within an hour.

This charger is rated for AMG batteries

I have a similar set-up for my 70 GTX since it only sees the light of day a dozen times a year.

I agree with the use of a 10amp tender/maintainer. The NOCO-10 is a great choice, it does more than maintaining. (I own one)

But with that said.....

I think you're issue is deeper... any healthy battery should be able to handle a two week time out. I have left mine for 2 months and it started right up.

Do you have any DIY aftermarket accessories installed ? These vehicles do have a slight parasitic drain ... but nothing that should kill a battery in two weeks.

Good luck !
