In the past whenever i did an audio upgrade i usually started with the speakers and the added an amp.
However is saw this and it was too good of a deal to pass up. the specs to the AMP are below, and it is being installed next Monday. The shop installing this has done this in several Jeeps.
The one caveat though is when running in 5 channel mode channels 1 - 4 will receive about 75 watts (should be more than enough power in a JLU) channel 5 will receive about 200 watts (should be good enough for my pioneer 12" shallow mount sub, but probably not good enough for a 'bass head" running JL's). The amp has Kenwood's DSP built in (EQ / time delay / X over points / etc). I will be using high Xover points at first in order to save those "quality" Mopar speakers.
Now here is where I need some advice: I expect the "quality" Mopar speakers that came with the base audio system to go belly up if I turn it up. I am planning on replacing the sound bar speakers, and then the knee / dash speakers.
So, the sound bar questions:
For those that replaced the 3.5" & 4.0" speakers in the sound bar WITH 3.5" and 4.0" speakers what did you use and how do you like it? This seems like the easiest solution.
For those that replaced the 3.5" & 4.0" speakers in the sound bar with the SSV 6.5" kit, How was the install and the dremeling? What did you think of the kit?
For those that replaced the 3.5" & 4.0" speakers in the sound bar with the MBQuart 6x9" kit, How was the install and the dremeling? What did you think of the kit?
If I am correct because I have the 7 inch radio and base audio (no subwoofer) system, each channel LF / RF / LR & RR are powered by the radio and split in parallel. In other words the SAME signal is sent to both the LR 3.5 inch in the sound bar, and the LR 4.0 inch speaker in the sound bar. Any "filtering" is done at the speaker using capacitors, (I know, this is NOT the case for those that have the alpine system) . This means if using the SSV or MBQuart solutions I would use 1 speaker lead into a metra harness and tie up the other speaker lead.
Now, the front speaker questions:
option A) would be to replace the 3.5" dash speaker with a drop in replacement and call it a day. I'm pretty sure this won't work as the "quality" Mopar knee speakers will crap out if I turn it up. I'm guessing they would not handle 20 watts of consistent power much less a peak to 50+.
option B) replace the knee / dash speakers using the metra pods and a 6.5" component set. This is where I'm leaning. So if you did this did you have them installed and roughly how much was it? If you did it yourself did you find any shortcuts to avoid taking the whole dash apart?
suggestions and comments are appreciated,
Thanks
