I am considering this. Its supposed to make the windwo less likely to crack or scrathc, and if it does they repair and replace glass for free at jeep? Seems worth it if it works?

How much is it and how often do you need to replace it? Most of the products I have found require you replace it annually and costs as much or more than the deductible would be if the chip cracks and needs to be replaced. Great for super cars that you pay 4-5K for a new windshield but not really economical for a Jeep.

I wouldn't do it. If it's true that the replacement acoustic windshield is only $599 you are basically pre-paying for your replacement windshield or more if you have the non-acoustic windshield. The product I found is called Clearplex but it is a film which is why you have to re-apply it once a year. From my minimal research it looked like it was about $300 installed. Unless you drive a dirt road everyday behind semis and farm trucks neither of them seem like they are worth while investments.

If it’s worth it to you, then I’d say get it.

For me, I carry a $100 comprehensive deductible on our vehicles (check with your insurance on cost difference if you have a higher deductible) so technically that would be a windshield a year for six years. Some insurance companies even offer dedicated glass plans with zero deductibles that are fairly reasonable. Having said all that though, in the last six years I’ve only needed my windshield replaced twice and a chip repaired once.

Evaluate all your options and make the best decision on that information.
