Hello

Sorry to ask again but I am getting lost in the multi year threads on this topic

I have a 2020 Sport S with a 5 inch radio. I want update to a 7 or 8.4 for mostly CarPlay.
Will all JeepJL 7 and 8.4 radios fit in my Jeep?

What do I gain in functionality with an 8.4 versus the 7?

Thanks I’m advance for the help.

If they came from another JL Wrangler, or are the correct part numbers for a JL Wrangler, yes.

A larger screen, obviously, and built-in navigation (which is not as good as using navigation via CarPlay or Android Auto).

I used an 8.4 out of a wrangler radio (was supposed to be a gladiator but the Sirius radio info said it was a wrangler) on a gladiator and it worked just fine. I'm willing to bet a gladiator radio (similar year or newer) would work in a JL....

Yes. I just didn't want to add any confusion.

you will need to also upgrade the antenna , been there done it lol
if you want to try the one from the stock sport that u have, it wont work unless they upgraded the sat antenna since my swap .but you can try
if not buy https://nismopar.com/jeep-wrangler-jl-sirius-xm-gps-and-compass-antenna-kit

If your vehicle already has satellite radio/SiriusXM, you will not to to replace/upgrade your antenna. The SiriusXM and GPS antenna is one combined antenna.

You only need what was posted above if you do not currently have SiriusXM.

My radio at the time had sat radio. But not Navi. I had to get the new antenna for the 8.4 to work. If the jeep wasn’t equipped from factory with Navi you’ll need that antenna. Trust me I had this issue long ago. Maybe they use one antenna now but I didn’t get lucky.

No you don't. I went from a 7.4 with SiriusXM to an 8.4 with nav and didn't need anything other than the radio and the bezel.
I went from a 5 to 8.4 my 5 didn’t
your 7.4 had Navi ?

Look above. My vehicle did not have factory nav with the 7" radio. Just SiriusXM. I simply swapped in the 8.4" radio. Nothing else was needed aside from the radio bezel.

If you can find the thread you can read my posts from 2 years ago. I needed a new antenna. That was my issue.

It didn’t come with navigation, but the 7 inch radio is capable of navigation. That’s why it was equipped with the correct antenna. The 5 inch radio cannot have navigation they put in a cheaper antenna. This is why I needed the newer antenna. To the original poster hopefully you don’t have this issue. If you do now you know why
