About a month ago I started upgrading my factory premium system in stages. Figured one of the easiest first steps to do was to upgrade the soundbar, dash, and knee bolster speakers. I love Kicker products so went with the PNP package from Trail Seven. Soundbar and dash speaker install was stupid simple and took maybe 30min (knee bolster speakers will be a project however lol). This made a nice improvement after break in.
Next step was to tackle the sub enclosure. Determined to keep it looking factory but not wanting to dismantle the one in the Jeep while I figured this out, I snagged a brand new assembly I stumbled across on eBay for $200. Purchased three sheets of Dynaplate and cut them into 1.25" strips. I layed out a crisscross/mesh pattern, formed and test fitted each aluminum backed piece before sticking and rolling it down. My thinking is that a weave pattern should be stronger than a single flat sheet and the individual strips made it so much easier to work with.
Layed down strips to seal the edges first, then the entire back of the enclosure. Plugged and sealed the rear sub screw, added foam strips for more help with vibration, and will be using a Neutrik speak-on connector for the wiring, connected to a Kicker Key 500.1 amp under the passenger seat. The sub is a CompRT 10" mounted to the adapter ring from BRP Auto. Of course I'll be stuffing the inside with polyfill.
Up next is bypassing the stock amp and connecting the new Kicker speakers to a Key200.4, at this moment the plan is to retain the factory head unit....... but we shall see lol
I'll post more pics as progress continues.
