I'm looking to lift my 20 JLU Sahara and have been reading through a lot of posts on here and then hitting up manufacturer websites and reading information. There's a piece that seems to be common and that is that most lift are designed based on the Rubicon and generally fitted and tested on Rubicon with steel aftermarket bumpers.

I guess I did things backwards and got my steel bumpers put on first (no winch yet), so as I am reading about these different makers and their measurements, I questioned rather I am thinking about this correctly.

Let's say my Sahara sagged 1" due to the weight of the steel bumpers. If I am looking at a manufacturer who says their 2.5" kit will not sag with steel bumpers, am I correct that to compare it to my Sahara currently, I would need to add the 1" lost when I installed the bumpers plus the 2.5" from the lift? Am I not basically resetting to factory height and then lifting an additional amount?

Probably overthinking, but wanted to verify.

Yes. The lift is from stock height and you’d get the same effect of the new bumper if you had waited. You won’t know if the weight will cause any sag with the new springs until you install them. I had my bumpers and winch installed a month before I got my lift. I didn’t notice much sag on the stock setup and my Jeep ride height seems fine with the lift. I have a bad tendency to overthink and analyze things also. Lol.

I went with the Metalcloak gamechanger 3.5” lift and 37” tires.

That's what I figured, but asking to make sure. Trying to pick the right height, so knowing where I am, where I will be "starting" from and end up are all things I'm trying to gauge.

Different manufacturers handle weight differently. What brand are you looking at?

Clayton handles weight really well. MC is awesome. Avoid TF.
