With Android (Say a Samsung S8) what type of cable? Anything out of the ordinary? You must plug in your phone if you want to use Android Auto / want anything graphical. Regular old Bluetooth audio and phone interaction works as you're likely used to with other radios wirelessl
Nothing special as long as it has data and charging wires (some USB cables are charge only), but the instructions say to use your supplied charging/sync cable as a CYA for tech support if someone struggles with a shitty cable. With Android (Say a Samsung S8) what type of cable? Ok, as I thought .. Thanks for your input!Nothing special as long as it has data and charging wires (some USB cables are charge only), but the instructions say to use your supplied charging/sync cable as a CYA for tech support if someone struggles with a shitty cable.
Thanks for the reply. No cables were provided. There is an Aux port in as part of the media input panel if you want to plug in a phone or anything else using just the headphone jack for exclusive audio input and no smarts.
Just for the record, so we all place blame in the correct placeNegative. And it never will. Waze is google owned and will be kept on Android Auto only.
So, Apple is to blame currently.Just for the record, so we all place blame in the correct place, Apple currently does not permit ANY alternate map software in Apple Car Play. If they do at some future time, then we blame Waze/Google.
ExactlySo, Apple is to blame currently.
They always have to be proprietary. Always.

To understand. Android Auto requires a cable? I rented a car (Mitsubishi?) and Android Auto worked perfectly over BT. Can I have a phone on BT and my music device use another BT connection? What did you find?Waze is effectively the same but very minor button differences, so yes to those questions. Finding alternative routes took me a few guesses.
You must plug in your phone if you want to use Android Auto / want anything graphical. Regular old Bluetooth audio and phone interaction works as you're likely used to with other radios wirelessly.
I have not tried Amazon Music as it's not something I use. I assume so as so far I can vouch for Spotify, Pandora, Google Music, and VLC. I set Spotify as my default music, so "Hey Google, play Godsmack radio" launches Spotify radio channel Godsmack.
You can use just the BT connection to stream music, but if you want the control of your phone through the stereo, such as with maps, etc, then you use the cable. It can connect either in the dash, center console (where you can hide it) or rear for rear passenters. BT doesn't move data quickly enough to run AA.To understand. Android Auto requires a cable?
