I've got a 2021 JL Rubicon that I bought in Sept 2020. Ever since I bought the Jeep I have occasionally noticed a bad ambient temperature reading displayed on the dash. It's usually well below the actual outdoor temperature. I've seen temperatures as low as -35F displayed. It never gets anywhere near that temperature where I live. I didn't think it was a big deal initially because everything else seemed to work fine.

When winter started approaching and the temperatures got colder I started to get a message that my hood was open every morning when I started the Jeep. If the outside temperature was below 45 degrees I could count on my Jeep telling me the hood was open when I started it. This caused my remote start and ESS system to be disabled. The ambient temperature also does not display when the vehicle thinks the hood is open. I contacted the dealer to have them look into the issue. The dealer said there was a small break in a wire connected to the hood switch. They repaired it and sent me home.

I didn't see the issue again for a week or so, but by this time the weather was warm enough that I usually don't get the hood open message anyway. I still noticed the low ambient temperature readings from time to time. When the weather got warm enough to start using the A/C I noticed it would not blow cold air when the ambient temperature was showing a low reading. Typically in the single digits or below zero. I assume this is by design. I assume the computer won't let the A/C turn on below a certain temperature. The A/C works fine when the temperature is showing a reasonable number. I took it back to the dealer and they changed the ambient temperature sensor. Everything worked fine for a couple of days. Three days later on a cool morning I get the hood open message again. After driving for 15 minutes the temperature reading starts dropping so I turned on the A/C just to see if it would work. Of course it did not. I'll be going back to the dealer again on next week.

Has anyone had a similar issue? It must be a wiring or computer/software issue.

Best of luck these glitches blow. My glitch is different but also cold related. Gauges don't work and they keep rebooting in temps below 40*. Once engine temps warm up, the gauges stay on and function normal. Not living in a cold climate, I live with it as is.

I too have 2021 JLUR and my temperature readings are just the way I expected (usually warmer before vehicle movement, and goes to the right value while driving). I also never got open hood warning.

Fortunately most of my issues aren't a big deal, but I would like to be confident my AC is going to work when it's 100 degrees in July.

After running tests for a couple of days the dealer has traced my problems to a bad bcm. Unfortunately bcm’s are on back order so it will be a few weeks before they can replace it. Hopefully this fixes my problems.

Update: I picked up my Jeep earlier this week after the dealer replaced the body control module. So far so good. That appears to have been the issue.
