So basically they’re now not only listening in on conversations in your house but now in your car

Yep. Listening to me sign to the radio off key, trying to decide where to eat with the spouse or mundane conversations about grandkids. I'm sure some offshore Amazon employee is drinking heavily at night after listening to those conversations all day.

I was invited too, and purchased it at a discount. I haven’t placed it in my Jeep but instead will probably put in my 2003 VW Beetle. It’s it difficult to install? And getting to work? Any tips?

Question does the audio have to go in through the audio jack or can it send via Bluetooth to your unconnect?

My experience and I'll admit that I'm possibly missing or not understanding a few options. I have the 7" radio in my JL.

Echo is nice that it connects via bluetooth and has very good mics since I can place it in the cubby in front of the shifter and Alexa can understand my voice. Downside is having to go into Media every time I start the vehicle since it defaults to sat radio. Maybe this is inexperience but I cannot get it to show directions (Alexa just says directions) and it only allows me to play my Amazon playlist using bandwidth (doesn't allow me to play my offline Amazon playlist).

CarPlay is nice since it has maps and allows my Amazon offline playlist. Downside is always having to connect via cable and Siri just isn't Alexa when it comes to things it can do or find on command.

CarPlay is the winner for me due to maps and offline music being the primary use. If I wanted to have long conversations with Alexa that might be different. Echo would definitely be useful for a vehicle that doesn't support CarPlay.

Kinda resurrecting an old thread...

I'm still using the Amazon, Echo Auto... main issue is that if you lose cellphone coverage, she tells you she tells you she is having trouble connecting..

Is a nice addition and shines so to speak in areas with good cell reception .... on those interstate drives.

I recently set up my garage doors with Meross Smart Garage Door Opener Remote, APP Control, Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings, Multiple Notification Modes, No Hub needed openers.. Install in the garage only takes a few minutes and is easy easy... Set-up with Alexa (Also works with Google) was easy too.

Special $8 off deal on them going on now @ Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QCTN71J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

NOW, with Alexa, I can open and close my garage doors just by telling Alexa in the house/garage or in the JL/Echo Auto to open and close such and such garage door..

These door openers set-up with Alexa are really a nice addition.. Meross also has a smartphone app that is decent... Allows you with the app, to open and close the doors, give you status open or closed of each door anytime/anywhere. The app also has some other frills... keeps a record of when door was opened and closed, etc..

Yep and with a bit more integration with your smart home, you can turn on lights, check your door locks and tons of other things. Don’t laugh but because Echo Auto is mobile, Amazon gave it limitations that the Echo Dot does not. As an early adopter, I raised hell with Amazon as the restrictions were too much. “Alexa, is my garage door closed?” was replied with, “I’m sorry, that function is not available. With “gentle” feedback, it has come a long way. I was running the Dot in my car for quite a while (fits nicely in the cup holder, connects to the car’s blue tooth as well….. LOL

IoT is limited only by the imagination.

@VKSheridan

I too, early on was a tester of Amazon Alexa devices and that included Echo Auto...

I have multiple residences and each residence has just over 30 devices that the router at the residence deals with.. I'm into it lets say big time... 8-)

Just added the Meross Smart Garage Door Opener 's a couple of months ago... real nice addition.
They work well and integrate well with Alexa.

Anyway, I'm into Technology..

I hear ya, the addiction is real. If I’m not modding my Jeep, I‘m tinkering with home automation. Wemo, SmartThings, Home Assistant on Rasberry Pi3, Z-Wave locks, Harmony Hub, Ring cameras, Skylink Net, IFTTT, Echo Dot, Auto, Show, Honeywell Thermostats, Rainbird sprinkler controllers and MyQ Chamberlain Garage integration. The list goes on and on and I’ve only scratched the surface. If it’s electric and it’s sensible to be integrated, it is.

I just checked my router device count, 59 active…..????

Bumping this old Amazon Echo Auto thread, to let other's know that Amazon Echo Auto - 2nd Gen, 2022 release offering will soon be available to all...

I have been testing this 2nd Generation Echo Auto on my JL for a while now, and can say it is really nice... Because of my agreement with Amazon, I can say little.... but....

I have enjoyed having the 1st Generation Echo Auto for the 3 years ..... but this new, 2nd generation Echo Auto is even more of a pleasure. One big improvement is the much much improved attached Mic module.

This new Echo Auto - 2nd Gen, 2022 release will be available at Amazon in the next few days..
