Has anyone replaced their alpine sub with something better? Was wonder how difficult of a project that would be.

There are threads about this. I forget if some screw in or if you need a mounting ring, but it’s doable.
First is the rabbit hole of if you need an added amplifier, etc.

There isn’t a lot of room in the enclosure, less than 3.5 inches. The most popular option seems to be the JL Audio 10TW3 4 ohm dvc sub. It’s only 3.25 inches deep and will work with the .5 cu ft enclosure. Pull the sub enclosure, remove the trim ring, remove the sub and don’t forget the one screw in the back. Then you can mount the sub on the trim ring and reinstall the trim ring. I will be doing this Friday after installing a MB Quart stage six and adding as 400.1 Quart amp to the rack. If you do this you will not be able to use the factory amp.

Jeep Wrangler JL Alpine subwoofer replaced? 1000008856

Sounds better then expected.
If replacing sub I would add an amp
Add sound dampening and polyfill to the enclosure is a must of you take this apart anyway. Takes time costs little is worth it.

I would think you would need to replace the amp to really make it much better.

I have the MB Quart drop in in the factory box. I prepped the box with some deadener and stuffed with poly fill. The mounting wasn’t bad at all.

I’m using a JL Audio VXI 1000/5 sub channel to power the sub. At 2 ohms the woofer is getting about 600 watts. The sub sounds better than the factory Alpine sub but really doesn’t play that low. It pretty much falls flat on its a$$ at about 38 Hz but above that, it sounds good.

Overall, it’s a good upgrade that sounds better than factory but you’re not going to win any SPL contests with it!

Agreed. I have had it for a year and I am happy. Could be better but considering the limitations of the stock enclosure, it works.

Anyone with Alpine drop in Sub have any input contrasting to this set-up and if it resolved low end bass issue/not there as mentioned above?

I also replaced the AmpPro that came with the Quart kit with a Fosgate DSR-1 and the PLC2 knob. I like whatever curve is dialed into the PLC adjustment compared to the AmpPro knob.
