NEW JL owner here. In the process of buying new wheels and tires, and I really like how the mud terrain tires look but my research is telling me they are really loud and use more gas. Ill be driving 99% on pavement. Not sure what I should get. The practicality in me says I should get the All Terrain but I love the way the IronMAN Mud tires look amongst others. Anybody care to give me any advice? I guess I should also mention that my wife will be driving the car a lot also.

It seems to me that your main priority here is looks. I question how much mud, and deep mud at that by the look of those tires, you'll be encountering. Those particular tires would be too much compromise for me just for the looks. I read that they're terrible in the rain, and in my experience, would be quite loud.

Yea your right thats what I was thinking, but down here in South Florida so many Jeeps are on mud tires and not doing any mudding or rock crawling. My natural instinct is to go all terrain.

Mine came with Mud Terrains (MOAB) KM2's. Honestly I don't have any complaints about them. Driven from Miami to Jacksonville and they were great. I usually drive topless and the noise is not as bad as most people say.

We have a Sport S. A co worker recently bought a 2018 JK Willys. He is going to do a lift and wheels and tires soon.
He will sell me his take offs. I'm thinking about it mainly for the looks of the tires and the black wheels. I'm not sure about the Mud Terrain tires for the same reasons discussed here, noise and traction on wet pavement.
Also, my wife mainly drives it..

I just bought a set of KO2s for my '19 JLU Sport S that's not yet delivered (early to mid Feb). Seems to be the happy medium between aggressive looks and decent ride on pavement. We'll see...

The best deal is to buy some Rubicon take off K02's. I sold mine with 3k miles for 600$ for all 5.

Go with an aggressive all terrain/hybrid tire. They look tough but handle well on road.

Go AT. MT generally don’t do well in rain and even snow. If you are mostly on the road, go AT. The tires will be quieter and last longer, and still look cool.

I have MT's. Like the look. A bit of noise doesn't bother me. Just gotta rotate them often before the front tires start to wear unevenly due to cornering......they do get louder and rougher riding if you don't stay on top of rotating every 3-4K.

Have owned the BFG AT's. Only thing I notice I don't like about AT's is the voids in the tread is narrower which means they pick up small rocks and sling them, Likely why there are some threads here that are discussing products to protect the door hinges from rock chips. Also some tiny rocks get wedged in between the body and fender flares.

My MT's have not contributed to the rock chipping issues and they stick out of my fender flares a couple inches. The voids in the tread are too big to pick up rocks.

I have Dick Cepek Fun country on my JLU Sport. They are considered a hybrid. I like them alot. My brother is running Milestar Patagonia m/t and he likes them alot, very aggressive yet good road manners with low road noise and budget friendly. Here is a pic of my DC's

You can’t go wrong with the KO2’s.
I have mud terrains on my JK. Looks great for the couple seconds I look at them while walking up to the Jeep, then the rest of the ride I hate them with a raging passion.
