Hello all,
I am looking for an affordable portable air compressor for around $100 (hopefully less). It will be used infrequently but will be kept in my 2021 JLUR and sometimes in my other car. I am considering the ViAir 90P at the moment. Any other suggestions other than that unit?

Thanks!

I wanted something for my 2wd camper van and just ordered this portable from eBay @$80.08.
Smittybilt 2.54 CFM Air Compressor - 2780
I just compared the ViAir 90P. The Smiittybilt has better numbers and is $17 less. I've had zero issues with their winch so there is that, haha
Thanks - I was looking at this one also - only reason I put the 90P ahead of it is because some folks are saying that smittybilt is using proprietary hoses - so if you need replacement hoses or attachments later, then sourcing them could be an issue. Did you see the same comments - or just figure that at that price point it doesn't really matter?

NAPA MaxiTrac, with signup for their text spam they will send you a coupon to get it under $100. 1 min per tire, most of the time we're done and on the road before the single cylinder viar guys are even done the 1st tire. Battery cables and top of compressor get HOT, but for once a weekend it makes air one less thing to worry about.
Also once you get the bug for offroading you will want deflator caps like these...best $10 bucks you can spend. Took the springs out and just screw them on like valve caps, watch pressure on dash and unscrew when they hit 20(beware the 1 tire that the sensor dosent catch up, just unscrew that one in order you put them on).

Looks like the maxi trak is suffering from supply chain issues

Stick with ViAir. I have a larger one (400) and it’s closing in on 20 years of use. And I wheel a LOT.

hah, hell I'd pay $101 for a ViAir 400P. Where can I get one for $100 or less. That's what the thread is about.
Did you not read the OP? He’s looking at a smaller one.

I’m recommending the brand, not the exact model I have.

PS- I will sell mine for $100. In 2005 dollars like I paid. ;)
I think that’s about $899 in today’s money.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Got the Viair 88P it works well and is pretty high quality for the price paid IMO. Should work well for 2 Jeeps w/ 33" tires or one w/ 35s. Have used it quite a bit and will air up my 295/70s (33.4" tall) in about 10 minutes from 18 to 35psi. Has a decent duty cycle. Only downside is it gets scorching hot, so need keep the rubber cords/hoses away from unit until it cools down.

Here's a Viair 88p vs 90 comparison, the 90 has a few more features but the 88p has more power, so I think the 88p would best if your Jeep has tires 33 to 35" tires. I wouldn't use either for tires taller than 35s.

Smittybilt has better numbers than either the Viair 88 or 90. Higher 2.54 CFM and longer/high duty cycle 40 min. at 40 CFM. Reviews mention the ViAir was too short a reach all tires. SmittyBilt has a 10" power cord and a 24" coil air hose, long enough for my E250 van. haha, I should be sponsored.
Yeah, sounds like a nice deal! I think when I was shopping for portable air the best price on that Smitty was around $130!

FWIW no problem getting to all my tires w/ the Viair, actually have quite a bit of extra room (if I need to get to the spare or own a 4dr). Not sure if it would be sufficient if I ran a trailer, although the electric leads and the air hose fully maxed would probably get there depending on the trailer size.

I got the Maxi Trac from NAPA for 114$. Modified it with a pressure switch and quick connect coupler to fit ARB hose. Have only used it once to check it out. Worked like a charm inflated tire from 15psi to 37 psi in just over a minute. Cant wait to try it on the trails.
