I have a 2012 Sahara Unlimited that I am planning on selling, as much as it is a bit heartbreaking to do so. I'm looking for advice on how to price. I can look at KBB but I can't put in the lift kit, after market bumpers, side rails etc. etc. Nor can I plug in the Winter Chill color or custom interior. Is there a general rule of thumb for pricing that folks have used? Any advice would be appreciated!

Best bet is to search your local Craigslist and see what comparable Jk's sell for. However I'm convinced a lot of local (Nor Cal) Jeeps are over priced and probably sell for a lot cheaper than asking price but your area might be different. Good luck.

Unfortunately you will never get back what you put in when it comes to after market parts. I always figure 50% of the cost when trying to value aftermarket parts.

You will have two camps of people, the first will be leery of a heavily modified jeep. Was it done with quality parts? How hard was the jeep ran? Must have been heavily off road-ed to have those upgrades. I know this may not be true but that is what some folks will think. The second set of people will be happy to have a “cool” looking jeep already done without the hassle.

If you need to sell quick, then price right at KBB good value. If you have some time and don’t mind the tire kickers, mark it up to cover the aftermarket parts but I would use 50% of their cost as a baseline.

Best of luck selling!

2 dealer's gave me the same used value and the key thing being they don't go by KBB, They use NADA which is lower than KBB values. Research revealed that NADA seems to be the more realistic standard and what dealers use. I was expecting 1500-2000 more.

Good luck getting anything extra for your upgrades. I’d KBB and maybe ask for the high end.

Yep. Start there matching your custom Jeep as much as possible. Then figure about 30-40% additional for the mods at best. Hate to say it but unmodified Jeeps can actually sell for the same or more than the modified ones. Selling privately is the best way to go as trade in will kill you...even if in pristine condition and never even saw dirt (dealers don't care).

So try to figure out your "base" rate and throw some more in for mods, list it and if no bites then re-list for a lower price, etc. You'll find a buyer eventually or maybe right away if lucky. Just know, and don't get upset that you will not recoup the amount you put into it.

Shop it to CarMax for a baseline number. Then shop it to local Jeep dealers and used car lots. They are always looking for clean vehicles. Take those numbers and add 10% to cover sales tax to get a idea of what your bottom line number is. Or ask what the recent Manheim results are for your area.
