I figured it was possible.

I recall being probably 40 miles from the nearest person with no cell service, near the ID-NV border, one time. If we had broke down, it would have been a long long walk.
I have the SL Mini but never thought about doing an install like the OP has done. Never imagined it would work through the soft top. That's why I like this site...always someone sharing something different.

What many don't realize is that you can make cellular calls using the wifi of the StarLink dish when you are not in cell coverage. The low latency of the StarLink allows this to happen. So another benefit of having StarLink when off-roading/over landing.
Actually, I was able to FaceTime and drive around for 10 minutes. I also discovered that when CarPlay is connected, the iPhone disables my phone’s camera during a FaceTime call.

I hate to be that guy, but the minimum distance Starlink recommends is 13". Is there any way you could install that over the rear storage area? RF radiation isn't very good for you. Over time I can cause damage to tissue, and the tissue you're exposing to it is probably the most important stuff you have.

And no, a tin foil hat isn't a good idea, it'll actually make things worse.

Good luck.

VERY cool install I just bought one as a SHTF resort. I also bought the home unit that I'm installing next week. I've seen enough of the local internet providers outages.

Thanks!

The EcoFlow setup is working as expected. However, the only downside is that the USB C port lacks an on/off switch in the EcoFlow app. I’ll reach out to them to see if they can add this feature as a future update.

With the SOT top open, there’s not much space in the back. I don’t plan to use it all the time, so I’ll add a switch somewhere to make it more convenient.

I hope that those phase array antennas are forming a primary beam lobe pointing upwards)) Also, in my understanding, most of the internet traffic is downlink, while uplink is not that significant.

Regardless of the array, there's always sidelobing. Yes it's at a lesser degree than the main signal, but that might just be why the recommended minimum distance from the active antenna is 13".
If I were going to use that antenna setup, I would at least talk to the technical helpdesk at Starlink.

I'm using the DJI 500 & 1000 and they don't have that issue.

The new iPhones (15 and up?) allow sms text messages via satellite for free now. I have a 15 and it actually works. I know that's not the same as calling someone for help but you could text someone to call someone for you

It’s interesting!

I sent a request to EcoFlow to see if they could add a USB-C port control in future updates. However, it seems that the hardware lacks the capability. So, I opted for a more affordable solution)) I added a car charger, and now I can control the 12V socket from the EcoFlow app.

I put a standard gen 3 dish above the backseat of my gladiator. Works perfect through the hardtop.
Wow...I guess the phrase "clear view of the sky" is a bit subjective....ha
