I noticed today that my tailgate has slowly turned into a kitchen.
My Front Runner table originally installed pitched slightly forward, making the table slant down a bit when open. I left it like that for a few months, but after having a screw roll off into oblivion for the umpteenth time, I decided to fix it.
After removing the table, looking at all the parts and considering the options, I decided that the laziest way to fix it would be to just flip the bottom u-shaped bracket around, making it stand off another 1/4 inch or so.
This created the two small recesses in the front that turned out to exactly fit a couple of kitchen knives. Since I had kitchen knives always ready, I kept a couple of cutting boards between the table and tailgate.
I later removed the trim panel entirely, giving me even more space in the back, so I put a small folding table and stove windscreen behind the table mount along with some easy, quick foods, like instant soup or grits.
With the trim panel gone, I suddenly had a lot of free mounting hardpoints, so now a stove lives there.
They would get wet in the rain, so the wiring connecors got rerouted to the inside of the tailgate, but there is still lot of room in there for stuff, and now I can open the tailgate from the inside by reaching in there and pulling the latch lever. I'm pretty sure it will eventually turn into a pantry.
