Hello All

Waiting on delivery of my 2023 Sahara Unlimited 4XE. Likely to arrive on or about 10/24/22… can’t wait!

I have two quick questions for the group:

1. I ordered the Jeep with the all weather mats. Can anyone advise whether this includes a cargo area mat? (I suspect it does not). If the cargo mat is not included, I’m looking for recommendations for a quality mat that fits the 4XE.

2. Does the spare tire mount come with a locking mechanism? If not I’m looking for recommendations for a locking lug nut that I can use to secure the spare to the mounting bracket to reduce the chance of theft.

Thanks for any and all suggestions…

Lots of Cargo mats on Amazon. Depends on price range what you like. I got mine there for $60 last year.

Wouldn't think lock on spare. Most on forum say the locking lugs are too easy to remove and to my knowledge have not read about stolen spare on here.

Congrats on Jeep!!! Lots of info on forum.

x2 on the spare question. No one is going to bother stealing one tire. Dealers have had issues with thieves taking four or five spares off lot inventory for a set, but even that’s rare. Most street criminals want smash and grab stuff (ie, cell phones, etc). They don’t even mess with radios anymore for the most part. Not a great market for them.

I believe Gorilla has a splined lug nut set that includes the special socket. They have a set that replaces all of the lug nuts, including those on the spare. There's almost no way of completely securing anything, but they slow thieves down to the point that it's not worth it when there's easier pickings all around. That's why I'd rather switch them all out instead of just one per wheel. More time = less inclination.

And yes, there was a member here who had their spare stolen while parked in a "secure" residential parking garage. It's the only time I've heard of a stolen spare, and it was their brand new XR, so the had difficulty replacing it because the model was so new.

Thanks so much. I agree it won’t prevent theft but may slow someone down / discourage them.

I’d rather be safe than sorry. Had a spare stolen off a different SUV (not a Jeep) several years ago. Replacing a tire and rim is not cheap.

@Alcantwait

The Mopar all-weather mats do not include a cargo mat for the rear. While I would have preferred an aesthetic match for my Mopar mats, in the end I selected this aftermarket cargo mat. It's rather thick and heavy for what it is, looks correct in its own right, and lays flat (my OCD hates edges that curl up ;)).

As for wheel locks, which aren't included with the vehicle, I was gifted the well-regarded McGard locking lug nuts. The linked listing says Mopar, but that's just the factory name being used under license.

There are several brands and designs of locking lug nuts available, depending on your own aesthetic requirements. N.B.: the brand and style of wheel on your Wrangler will determine what locking lug nuts are compatible with the vehicle.

Hmmm. That's interesting. My '21 Rubi was delivered with lock nuts on all 5 tires.
I seem to be... special?

One guy had one hard-to-find wheel stolen a year ago? Sounds like the exception, not the rule. But, look, if you want to buy wheel locks knock yourself out. It’s your money.

Mine came with a set of 5 from Mopar. Dealer had them on every Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator on the lot. I’ve kept them on, can’t see it doing any harm. I think they run about $68/set. For the rear I’ve got a weather tech. Works great. My rear seat came out as soon as I got home from the dealer. Dog BED on top of the weathertech and the third member of the family is happy. During hunting season the dog bed gets out so it doesn’t get messed up. Weather tech is easy to clean.

I wasn't making an argument, I was just stating that they do in fact get stolen. Here in Canada, they come with 5 Mopar locks.
