I love my JL. This note isn’t going to say the JL isn’t reliable—because we don’t know yet. What I can say is my JK was one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve had. We often hear people saying Jeeps aren’t reliable and that’s part of owning a Jeep, but I disagree. It’s not as simple as that.

What do I want out of my Jeep? I’m wanting a vehicle that’s not going to break down when I’m 50 miles away from pavement on a rough trail. This is one of the main reasons I buy new and maintain my Jeep. The older the vehicle, the more possible problems surface.

Nonetheless, I truly hope my 18 rubicon is as reliable as my ‘16 JK rubicon. I was never hesitant to head out to a remote location and turn off my engine and fear it won’t start again. I ran my JK up until the 60k mile mark (when my powertrain warranty was over) and traded in for my 18.

Here’s hoping to the new JLs be as or more reliable as the late model JK’s!

That's pretty much how I felt and that's the main reason I got the manual tranny--so I could "POP CLUTCH" start if the battery died--
I'm having trouble with the AUX CKT, BUT EVERYTHING ELSE(IMPORTANT STUFF) is still online-

I only had my JK for two years but I never had a single problem with it. I am working through a big issue with my JL but it “should” be good to go by the end of the week. It is getting a entirely new PCM and power steering control module.

I had full faith in my 15 JK and sold it off at close to 100k with nearly zero failures. Unfortunately I can not say the same about the 18 JLUR.

I ran it until 54k and sold it off for 2 reasons, primarily because I needed a truck for towing a small camper, second, I could not trust the JL especially on long trips. To me it was a time bomb. I even talked with the Service Manager at my local Jeep dealer who through out the years I developed a good rapport with.

He said off the record anything over about 55k on a JL and your really beginning to roll the dice. Commenting that the JK was much less complicated, easier to work on and the dealership didn't see nearly as many in for warranty service.

To boot, I also had the original aluminum steering box and I would have to pay for the iron upgrade as I was out of warranty and beginning to become loose. I also had a few spots of the dreaded corrosion starting and the Connect screen starting to act up from time to time. I also noted a drop in fuel economy just before trading it off which was concerning.

I had no want to dump lots of cash into it so was time to go.

And actually the time was right, new wranglers were off the charts cost wise and used ICE Jeeps were bringing a premium as the dealers were loaded up with the 4xe's they couldn't give away so I traded it off for a new Colorado.

In all honesty if I really thought it would go the distance like the old JK I would have kept it just as a third and fun vehicle but the odds were against me. If it would have been a Hemi or LS conversion I would have rolled the dice and kept it.

Two things I did do and I believe really helped is I added a Baxter unit and always used 10w30 oil here in NM. I also always had my oil analyzed every 10k or so, changed oil every 3500 miles with Mobil 1 and was religious on service work. Potted the locker sensors and changed the trans fluid and filter. I also dumped the ESS early on and changed the Can-C star connector in the glove box which also got rid of some gremilins.

I really loved my JLUR and got many compliments on it but not being able to trust a vehicle you take out of state regularly is not a good feeling. I do hope in the future Stellantis can get the Jeep back on track both in price and reliability. We shall all see...

None... but it pays well.
I am on the other side of the spectrum. 85+k on odo The ZF tranny is one of the best of the big three. The 3.5L v6 is reliable and strong. Yes people had issues but mine was serviced under warranty for maintenance schedules all the way into March of this year.

After obtaining it from a dealer in TX, I drove it home to VA without any issues. Everything works from hd electrical to Alpine unit with 8.4 display and power everything.

Though 2019 is an extremely rare year for Jeeps and 2 door models. You see more 2018s and 2020s associated with complaints than 2019.
