This was a very frustrating morning.
I have the 5" Uconnect 3 system in my 2018 JL Sport. Like many others, I was having an issue where the stereo would crash and reboot if I had my phone plugged into the USB drive and I attempted to play anything. Thanks to these forums I found a very likely fix in updating the software. Shout out to you guys. I was even able to get the Service Bulletin which I printed out and took with me to the dealership. The plan was to get an oil change and this software update.
(SIDENOTE: I typed my VIN into Uconnect's software update site and it said I was up to date. So I couldnt download anything myself. Weird since I have never updated before and the care was purchased March 2019)
Anyway, I get to the dealership. Tell them what I need and the service rep says he is not sure they can do the software today. " We would have to take apart the dash to see what software version you have..." Also tells me the hourly rate to work on this is 200$/hour. I show him in the bulletin how it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.
So they take the car back for the oil change, and he's gonna "look into" the software thing. After oil change says he feels they shouldn't just do the update becuase he wants to do a full diagnostic. I explain that the bulletin addresses the issue. It is the diagnostic. He then goes back to talk to the tech and when he comes back he says it will cost 175$ to do a software update. Mind you, every time I have brought my jeep in for service I always ask if there has been an update for the radio since the damn thing never kept time even before this problem. I asked this question multiple times while still under warranty. Now, out of warranty, these updates magically exist and I have to pay 175$ for a tech to stick a flash drive in and press a button.
I explained this to him, in which he kinda just shrugged. Its obvious he, or the tech really dont want to do this update. So I left. I could have spoken to the service manager but I was just kinda done. I know if I can get my hands on the software file, I can do this update myself.
I also called UConnect's service #. No Help. Basically told me they are wanting people to update through dealerships.
Which is where I am hoping this fine community can help me out.
Does anyone have the software relating to TSB 08-124-19?
Does anyone have the latest software update for the 5" Uconnect 3 system they could email me?
Oh btw the Dealership was Demontrond in Conroe TX.
