Hello Jeepfam!

I know that this question might have been asked before, i searched but couldn't find an answer to my question.

What could cause the 4x4 not engaging the front wheels on a sport? The jeep is currently in the shop for repair on a rear pinion seal and bearing, the mecanic called me asking if the 4x4 system worked fine, little to mu knowledge, it didnt sinc3 he hard to pull it out of the shop on waiting for parts to come in and he removed the rear driveshaft and put it in 4x4 to take it out. The front wheels wont even spin. Could it be the FAD?

Jeep is a sport on 37s with 4.88 gear and tazerjl

Thank you all for ypur input on what it could be

If the driveshaft was spinning while the mechanic was attempting to reverse, the FAD is suspect. If it wasn't spinning, I'd start with checking that the shift lever in the cab is in sync with the shift lever on the t-case. Meaning that when the hand lever detents into the 4hi position, the case lever does the same. If that checks out, the t-case is suspect.

When you shift to 4WD, the FAD just links the left and right axles together, right? If indeed the t-case did go into 4WD, wouldn’t you still get drive/power going to the driver side wheel?

If you’re at a shop that’s fixing pinion seal/bearing, I’m sure they can diagnose this issue rather quickly if you ask them to… if not , then you shouldn’t be at that shop…. Hard for us to diagnose this without hands on, it could be several things…….

Problem solved, the FAD was disabled in the tazer, thanks to those who replied
