No doubt about it, modern Jeeps are porky. One reason the old CJ’s did so well off road with less “capability” built in was they were 1/2 the weight we are hauling around. Increased weight does not help. I had an old Suzuki “Brute” (1972) that was a tank off road. Only had 36 hp (2 stroke twin); 4sp, 16.5” skinny tires and a top speed of about 55. But, off the paved road it would go anywhere. Why? Light, didn’t “sink” in mud like heavier rigs. I really with our JL’s we’re 1-1.5k lighter.
