Great thread, I'm in the same dilemma...but going from stock 285/70R17 Falken MTs on stock Willys wheels. Pretty set on 35s (255/85R17) with stock wheels or 35x12.50R17 on 17x8.5 0 offset/4.8" backspacing, but good deals on 37s keep popping up everywhere LOL!

The motorcycle bug is biting again and that is no doubt going to impact the final decision on new tire size, wheels and regearing.

I spent some time in NoVA/DMV. Have a Face Plant (Lost Rhino) or two for me.

Don’t get me started on motorcycles lol. My second love. I have one I’ve been building for probably 15 years now…one day it’ll be done and awesome.

VA is gone to the doh doh bird unfortunately

VA and CO are swimming in the same waters. Both once great states that have been overrun by non natives who never held the same principals. But I digress. Yesterday I thought I found my next motorcycle, which will be my 38th! I go through them like some people do shoes or purses.

Dang, why did you go and mention that? Now I'm thinking 38s or 39s. You and 2nd 392 are making my life difficult!

I already have the 4.88s for the 37s. I think that will be fine with the SRT conversion later this year (my JKU was great with 4.88s/LSV8).

The whole point of getting an aftermarket wheel is so you can run better/bigger tires, better offset, and if you go bead grip/whatever the icon thing is you can more reliably go lower air pressure. Why would you NOT off road with them?
Beadgrip is a Method Wheel thing...

Dang, that's a lot of bikes! I don't think I've ever even owned that many pairs of underwear, my whole life! đź’©

I've had a few, mostly MC bikes from the Green Machines thru the Euro bikes. My favorite one of all time was a Husky CR250 that I raced back in high school. That thing was taller than me back then!! And I had to have a milk crate to sit on it in the staging area. What a bike!

I'm getting ready to buy tires for mine, not because I need them but just because I want them. I'm having a really hard time deciding between 35 and 37 myself. I've had 35s in the past on my Jeeps and was surprised at how civil they felt on the road. So thinking of upgrading a little more this time around. But I just don't know. I will be towing with the Jeep some, and commuting in it quite a bit. Off-road use will be occasional.
I tow with mine and FWIW I would do 35's. I have the 4.56 gears and the trans hunts and downshifts quite a bit. I know on 37's it would struggle, plus the mpg hit.

With a count as high as mine, I always tell people all of them were highway bikes. No mini bikes, no dirt bikes and such in the tally. I did buy one bike to try to restore but quickly realized I made a mistake and it's not counted. Paid $150 for it and gave it away for $75. At this stage in life, getting into two wheel off-roading is not in my best interest. One spill and I'd be broken and sore for weeks at least. I don't bounce back quickly like I did in my 20-30s.

Same here. That's exactly why I gave up 2-wheel trail riding in the late 90's; it was taking longer and longer to recover from the spills. I didn't think I would survive a header if it happened! And you know it eventually would. It already had.

I thought that would be the case for me but that has not turned out to be true...literally no seat of the pants difference in shifting or hunting or gears which surprised the heck out of me...and even bigger MPG has not suffered at all. this was my last road trip. this is pretty much I get with my 35's on the same road trip..it is one I do fairly often so have a good comparo...this one includes 2 passes each way.

Im have 255/85/17 MTBBATs on my 25 sport 3”2dr 6MT and get decent mileage. Very rarely see 5th gear. I was looking for my long road trip but the app only seems to have started tracking in September.

at similar speeds I get a bit better as well. bottom is my last Moab trip with 37's which is actually better than I would normally get with 35's

Well sounds like the only way we’re different is I hang onto mine lol….bought this one in 06….finally decided to chop it 2010 and finished it in 2012. Rebuilt the motor in 2018. Got over 120k on it….

I think with 2.0 you’re better off, on street/highway, then 3.6 due to the boost/tq. My buddy put heavy 37s on his v6 4.10 rubi and said mpg was atrocious.

try to go lightweight on wheels and tires. My wheels weigh about 23lbs and my 37” Patagonia mt01 weighs 71lbs. Ill be switching to mt02s which are a hair under 74lbs.
My buddys combined weight was like 115lbs or so. i have 4.88s. My mpg isnt great, maybe 14mpg street, but it does move out when i step on it! No slow jeep here lol. For a while i would switch to 35s for street duty, back and forth. I didnt notice a big difference in streetsbility. Pretty light wheels on 35” pats.

I just put in new axles with 4.56 so we’ll see how it goes now.

If you put 37s on and dont like how it drives, it would be worth regearing to 4.88 rather than going back to 35. If youre going to tow, you could go with 5.13 OR, keep a set of stock wheels on 33s or 35s for when you tow. I picked up a set of rubi stock wheels on half worn 33s for $400. Theyre on my jeep right now while i work on it lol.
