I am not thinking an oiling problem exists wrt oil pressure. 32psi can hit the top of the motor pretty darn fast.

This results in the next issue, viscosity. I think oiling problems in these modern engines is viscosity related. And while 0-20 will work, we know it shears down pretty quick to an unknown low value, and unless you change it out regularly, say 4000 miles where I do it, we probably should be using higher viscosity.

I have no proof either way.

This PUG Grand Cherokee made it to 200,000 miles with 0w20. This new owner put it on 5w30, hope it hits half a million miles.

So I just received the report from Blackstone on virgin oil analysis of PUP 5W30. Compare it against the PUP 0w20 that I received 3 months ago. The difference is so tiny. Why would anyone even bother running 0w-20?

Like I said, tenths difference between 0 & 5w.

It’s not about engine longevity. They need every tenth of a tenth mpg fleet average they can get.

I will never touch 0w20 ever again
It’s like a tool. Nice to have if you can use it. You live up in Canada? Sure, run it in the winter. It’ll be fine. Outside of that, there’s not much argument for it in my opinion with these engines and the same oil clearances they’ve had since inception.

I would run this in Canada. 1000 ppm Zinc 🤩

So this is my final decision. Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 in Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb. PUP 5w30 rest of the year. I think I like my decision as Walmart has the two by the truckloads 😄

As I reply earlier, I think a look at the error margin maybe in order as the virgin sample of 5w30 is coming back as 9.15 while my 3k miles use sample of the same oil came back as 9.7.

But the difference between 5w30 and 0w20 is still obviously tiny. No?

Even if we agree that 8% is there, the engine will chew it in 500 miles. My 0w20 became 0w16 after 2000 miles.

Mine was 8.1 after 3,000 miles. That's PUP 0W-20. Use whatever oil helps you sleep at night. I've had zero issues using 0W-20 and I have 50k on my 19 V6.

Except the big difference between the 2 is turbos, and a massive difference in bearing material and tolerances. tolerances are what determines oil requirements.
They are almost identical except for the difference in displacement. Heads, timing cover, thermostat housing, water pumps etc. are interchangeable.
