I know there is no way of knowing but do you think its possible that Jeep modifies or replaces the 3.6 for 19'? I only have that engine to choose from as i am buying a manual but I would hate to have the 6 months of production engine that is gone in year "2" for the JL. That can't be good for resale.

thoughts?

Why? The resale on JK's with the 3.8 is still excellent. The 3.6 is proven. The 2.0 and diesel are not. I'm striking early to ensure I get the 3.6. I don't want to discover that another powerplant is unreliable in the middle of BFE.

I believe the 3.6 is getting BSG added for MY 2019, so that would count as a modification I guess

Yes, I am speaking only to the 3.6 and right, just read up a bit on BSG. I think that would suck for owners who had 6 months of production of a motor that was then replaced with something more modern etc. Makes me want to pause for a 19'

Then pause for a 19. You'll have 3 choices then. So really, you've got 4 choices over the course of less than a year. 3.6, 2.0, 3.6 BSG, and 3.0 diesel. I think that's better than most vehicles offer.

I think BSG in theory will help with ESS. Another reason why it makes sense to wait for '19. Also inventory will be better, aftermarket will be better, and first year problems will be worked out.

That being said, I'm getting an '18.

Is BSG compatible with a manual transmission?

Forgive the dumb question, what is BSG?

Belt start generator. It is like an ultra mild hybrid where the generator starts the engine and provides some additional power at initial acceleration. It can also regenerate some electricity during braking.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with a manual. Start/stop works with the manual.

So is that what the 2.0 has making it a mild hybrid?

Are there any manual transmission hybrids out there?
The very first mass-market U.S. hybrid, the Honda Insight, launched with only a manual transmission. I keep hoping I'll stumble upon a cheap one nearby.

The Pentastar just got a major update for the JL. I doubt they will stop using it anytime soon.
This is something I'm kinda weary about. I'm almost inclined to put my tinfoil hat on and predict the notion of FCA tweaking the 2L over the next couple years to a point where the V6 essentially becomes unnecessary and they kill it off, much like Ford did with theirs in the Mustang.
