285/75 question

I bought a Unlimited sport few weeks ago with stock wheels wrapped cooper AT3 285/75.
I was debating on buying wheels for it.
17x9 with a - 6 offset. Would 285 look okay on that rim or look a little stretched?

It wouldn't be stretched beyond the tread width, but there might not be any sidewall bulge to protect the wheel.

Do you have plans for larger tires and a lift in the future, and wanting to be ready with less backspace to support it? If not planning on a larger and wider tire, I'd consider a wheel in the 8-8.5" width range and an offset on the positive side, which would give a more proportionate stance with that smaller tire size.

I would just get a set of Willys or Rubicon take off wheels. Market place usually has just the wheels for a few hundred bucks and they look great mounted on that tire size range.

Yea I wanna do 35s. But I would like to Regear in the process. I had a JK with bigger tires and getting on the highway was a nightmare every time.

The JL's are much more resistant to needing a regear than the JK's. The 8-speed auto plays the biggest part in that. The 2.0 turbo, 4xe, diesel, and 392 engines also play a part, due to their higher low and mid range torque advantage.

My JLUR with the 2.0 turbo is lifted about 6" and on 40x13.5's, and still rocking the factory 4.10's. Granted it's not as peppy off the line as it was with the original 33's, but it's still far from being a pig off a dead stop or when overtaking slower vehicles at highway speeds. Back when it had 35's, the Jeep barely noticed the difference.

Assuming you have 3.45 gearing, you probably won't have an issue with 35's. Unless you happen to have the 6-speed manual, which is not as forgiving as the 8-speed auto.

Leave it like that, it looks great. I love the way the base steel wheels look with meatier tires. By the way, even those steel wheels are the same size and offset as the non XR factory aluminum ones, even Rubicon wheels. 17x7.5 +44 offset.

In my opinion, a 9" wide wheel with -6 offset will look goofy on an unlifted Jeep. They will stick out and probably rub upfront if you don't eliminate those euro front bumper fillers. And the tires are too narrow for a 9' wide wheel in my opinion.

Oh wow okay! So I might be okay holding off on the regearing. Yes I'm pretty sure it's a 3.45 I know it's a 8 speed auto 850RE. I'm not to famillar.. Still learning.
I'm gonna end up waiting a month and throw a lift on it at the same time to be on the safe side.

Lifts can make or break overall ride and handling quality if not done right. It's definitely one of those get what you pay for types of modifications. Do some reading in the suspension subforum and feel free to start your own thread listing your wants, needs, and most importantly, budget. There's a lot of knowledgeable people here who can help lead you in the right direction.
