As a Californian, the obsession over this state, and the misinformation, are so curious to me. It’s not just in the states either. My friends and family all over the world seem to give CA more of thought than I do about what’s happening in my own city and state. Why are people so obsessed with this state and why are people so confident about their misinformation, like with the comment about the gas guzzler tax?
you asked bro, the coolest thing about Cali “was” Tupac. Ask yourself why those big companies moved from there

It's because MuH fREeDoMs ArE bEiNg InFrInGeD uPoN!!1!!1 And someone that's ill-informed stating that they're not ill-informed yet is defending their making a blatantly ill-informed statement is the icing on the cake. Bill_P is right- it's a nationwide tax, and one that that has been in effect since 1980!

Keep in mind that California pays in to the Federal tax system more than they take out, whereas (not just) Tennessee takes more in tax dollars from the Federal system than they pay in, so California is subsidizing your "freedoms". If it wasn't for the big, bad Nanny State of California, many of these "freedom loving" states wouldn't have enough money to operate, but let's not confuse ourselves with the facts.

What do Ca's nanny laws have to do with their Federal tax dependency rate? That number is more about how wealthy a state is, so it will be interesting to see how it holds up with their current population shift/migration that is going on. The ironic thing about it is that while Ca has shown to be quite hostile to those of us that love to build and modify cars, I always considered them to be the Mecca of car culture. But this hostility is not unique to Ca. Almost none of me friends and neighbors have any understanding of those of us that are car centric.

As to the Gas Guzzler tax, I think it was $1100 on my 2009 Challenger SRT. It's nothing new at all.

feel free to come visit car lots in Tennessee and prove me wrong… and it’s very possible that you could, but I have never seen it on a window sticker near where I live.

for your information, we have zero state income tax in Tennessee and we had a tax surplus this year of millions of dollars. When’s the last time California had a surplus of anything? Yet you were over taxed on everything. I guess you’re not so informed either.

Tennessee is among the most federally dependent states. Given, the article below is from 2017, but things don't change much in the Volunteer state, do they? Basically, residents and government are taking more from the federal government than they're putting in. That sounds like a welfare state to me, but what do I know? After all, Florida is in the same boat, taking more money from that horrible federal government that we put in.

As for me being overtaxed on everything, I'm in Florida, so what goes on in California doesn't really apply to me. Just like the Great State of Tennessee, we also don't have an income tax, but we blow Tennessee out of the water when it comes to education, so there's always that.

But just curious... what would going to a car lot in Tennessee show me? That cars in Tennessee don't have a Gas Guzzler tax? I don't understand the non sequitur of your argument.

That may very well be true, but at least the homeless aren’t turning our cities into dumping grounds… glad my simple comment about CA has drawn so much of your attention.

Please make sure you do your part then.

our church as a whole works with many homeless, it is one of many of our missions. We have seen many homeless come to know Christ and completely turn their lives around.

It's like boiling a frog in a pot... You don't throw them into boiling water because they'll jump right out, you put them in cold water and slowly turn up the heat... If you were from a state with lots of freedom such as TN, then you would understand why we think of CA the way we do... We see CA as a place that restricts basic Constitutional rights, but you don't see it because you've become accustomed to it... And, your assumption that I am misinformed is completely incorrect as are most assumptions.

$8 dollars a gallon for gas is not misinformation! I went to San Francisco for work and that place turned into a dump!
