Hey everyone,

Need a little help. After driving my Rubi for the last 11 months with the stock tires and wheels, I am looking at upgrading. Originally I found some wheels with a -12 offset but they are too common. Axe came out with a wheel, Axe Caos and they are exactly what I would like to put on the Rubi.

My concern is the Offset, -40. I am keeping the 33's that came with it for the time being any advice? How far will the tires stick out from under the fender? Anyone with a JL with Offsets -38-40 with photos? Thanks in advance and have a great Jeeping weekend!

Your Rubicon already has the slightly wider axles so running high negative offset wheels really pushes the tire way out there. There's some Warn wheels that look similar to that Axe wheel and have much better offsets. Unless you're planning to run much taller & wider tires w/ a max articulation tall spring setup I'd consider offsets around zero

Thanks for the input. I will check out the Warn wheels.

Another thing to keep in mind when going farther out w/ your wheels, you will increase your scrub radius quite a bit. Keeping the scrub radius as close to stock as possible is a good plan as too much can result in poor steering response, heavier steering, and possibly some unpredictable behavior in extreme situations.

There's also some extra load on the wheel bearings when you go heavy on the offset and combine that w/ larger tires it could increase wear there.

Here's a good site for comparing different setups, I plugged in 35x12.5x17 tires on the Warn 17x8.5 zero offset, and those Axe Chaos wheels 17x9 -40 offset for comparison.
Scroll down to see the various changes it will make on your overall fit.

And entered your stock setup 285/70s w/ Rubicon 7.5 +44 offset and then the 35s on those Axe wheels to see the extreme difference there

Thank you for the info. This will be a huge help. I’ll keep you posted on what I decide on. Have a good weekend!

Here's what a 17x9 wheel with -12mm offset looks like with 38x13.5 tires.

I'm going with the same tires and am really thinking about -38mm. Your doesn't stick out bad at all. I'm thinking mine would be 1 inch more poke, still livable. What lift are you running? I'm going with the 3.5" gamechanger with the rocksport shocks?

About 3" of poke, front and rear. I've got the 3.5" Gamechanger with 6-packs. Really got about 4.25" out of it. And that's with Mopar steel bumpers, Teraflex tire carrier and full spare, and LOD destroyer sliders.

Quick question for you @blnewt , where did you get the figures for fender clearance (50mm), wheelwell clearance (32mm) and suspension clearance (50mm)?

I'm looking at some wheels that are 17x8.5 with 5.2" BS, +10mm offset and I'm trying to figure out how much further they will stick out past the fenders compared to the stock Rubi wheels/tires on my 2019 2 door JL Rubicon.

Here you go, your stock set vs that new wheel w/ your stock 285/70 tires
