Towing capacity is limited due to wheelbase and suspension. You could shoe-horn the hellcat motor in there and it will still have a 2000 lb towing max.

I don't think it has anything to do with the wheelbase at all, seeing as how the JLU has more wheelbase than other Jeeps with far higher capacities. And it's not the suspension either, seeing as how the Ram 2500 suspension design is very similar. It's more about how the hitch attaches to the Wrangler, and the fact that it's a convertible.

But yes, he's right that the engine has nothing to do with towing capacity in this case. And, the EcoDiesel is likely never going to be sold in the 2-door Wrangler.

I thought FCA announce that no more diesel for passenger vehicles, it will be only for trucks.

It is to my understanding that the diesel Wrangler will only be available in a four door due to the length of the transmission. On that note, sadly it means it will also be an automatic.

They announced (June 2018) no more diesel for European vehicles. And yet, the diesel Wrangler was released in Europe yesterday.....


There are also articles showing FCA testing a 2-dr JL mule running the diesel. Not sure why they’d do that if they’re not bringing it to market. They’re good at keeping us guessing.
