2018 JLU Tie Rod Pin?

I recently had a mechanic install a 2.5" lift along with front stabilizer's. Had to take to another mechanic to get an alignment. They couldn't complete the work because the adjustment sleeve was broken...had mechanic replace adjustable sleeve....then had an alignment done....thought I was set up for success until I noticed this "Pin" sticking out (see pic). What is the purpose of this Pin? Looks like the backside was ground off and can't push it back through.

The OEM tierod has the passenger side rod end staked into the main tube. It is not separately replaceable. You'll note that the rod ends are dog legged.

The driver side rod end has a slot on the end where it slides into the tube and must align with the pin and slide in around it, insuring it aligns the dog leg with the passenger side rod end.

Many people going to larger tires and lifts eventually go to aftermarket tierods, if they wheel hard. This pin appears to be a weak area when the fit hits the shan.

Had it looked at today and added a bolt in place of the alignment pin. All good for now for a casual Jeep driver. Can't thank my mechanic enough for all the good work he performs.
