Good evening everyone I had a quick question.

Two days ago, I went to start my Jeep and the head light flickered and the jeep did not start. I did it a second time, same thing. The third time it finally started. I did some research and they said it could be possibly the battery on your key fob not working so I grabbed my other key fob and the Jeep started fine, but now I have the start to stop light indicator on my dash illuminated. This has happened before, but then disappeared. My start to stop hasn’t worked in a year. (Which I’m glad because I never used it).

My question is do I need to replace the auxiliary battery? Second question why even have the aux battery?

It's probably the main battery not the aux. At least that was the case for my 2018 JL. I replaced the AUX and nothing changed then replaced the main and start stop - started working again.

Also if you do replace the AUX battery, go in through the fender it's much easier.

Thank you Jman for replying. I just replaced my main battery just under a year ago. I also got it checked at O’Reillys and they said the battery and alternator are good.

Probably a silly question, but did you replace it with an AGM battery? I bought my Jeep used and the dealership had replaced the battery with just a regular battery....it lasted less than 14 months. Replaced it with a AGM battery and haven't had a problem since.

I forget the type of battery I got, It was the only one that Oreily's had that fit. We had opposite battery failures but my big one is def on the way out but I am getting a 2024 soon (I hope) so I won't be replacing it.

Our JL's are picky when it comes to battery condition. They have a higher voltage threshold between happy and not happy, so good may possibly not be good enough.

Also, a healthy battery won't last nearly as long as it could have after its been used as a crutch by a weaker one. It's always best to replace both batteries at the same time, otherwise there's a good chance of having a repeat premature electrical issue down the road.
