I’m guessing minus 30 exceeded the engineering threshold for the 48v battery or the 48v battery, at five years old, has lost some of its capacity which only became evident in extreme cold. Assuming you’re still within the 80,000 mile warranty I would certainly have the dealer take a look. I’m glad you’re back in business. Minus 4 is not exactly balmy….
So in my manual, I have a California emissions warranty which lists the 8/80 and items covered. I am not in California though…

The 8 year/80,000 emissions warranty is a Federal mandate and applies to all 50 states. You're covered...

Update on this. Picked up the jeep today and temps were -4f. Jeeps runs fines now. Had the shop charge my 12volt battery. Voltage on dash shows 14.6 when running. My guess it was too damn cold for the 48v to charge the 12v. Not sure how I would get around this issue. Still may bring it in to the dealer and have them load test the 48v but the jeep is doing the auto start/stop and all functions are working. I dunno, now I don’t trust taking it out of town.
There is no load testing for the 48v Samsung lithium battery. Also keep in mind that lithium batteries are generally non affected by extreme cold.

I would agree with that statement based on my experience with two etorque Jeeps over 5 years. It gets very cold in Kansas if the past two weeks have been any example. Both of my Jeeps have spent their winters parked in the driveway which is on the north face of my house. Temps have been in the minus catagory with wind chills stupid cold. I believe they said yesterday that Nome, Alaska was warmer than Wichita, Kansas. My point here is both of my etorque Jeeps (2.0 and 3.6) have been reliable in the cold and always started when needed. All good here.

“How Does Cold Weather Affect Lithium-Ion Batteries?
Have you ever had to abandon an outdoor project or a road trip because your lithium-ion batteries had died prematurely due to the cold weather? Well, cold weather is hard on lithium-ion batteries and can significantly reduce their efficiency and performance, regardless of their reputation as one of the best batteries in cold weather.

Lithium batteries discharge an electric current when the transfer of lithium-ion occurs from the graphite anode (negative electrode) to the cathode (positive electrode). This process slows down in cold weather thus weakening their power. As the temperature drops, the lithium ions will just coat the anode (lithium plating) thus increasing the resistance of the electrolyte and making fewer lithium ions available to cause the flow of electricity. This can reduce 20-30% of the rated battery capacity, although ideally, lithium-ion batteries should operate at 98-95% of the rated capacity.

In short, we can say that while lithium batteries still maintain most of their performance in cold weather and are probably still the best batteries in cold weather, they can experience significant shortcomings if not used, charged and stored according to specifications for cold weather. Therefore, it is important to consider these negative effects of lithium batteries in cold weather when planning any project, road trips and so on in cold weather. “

Tell us the exact model of your new 12v battery.
Tell us the result of the 12v battery load test.
I have not brought it into load test yet, the shop that charged it back up was in a town of 100 people he didn’t have anyway to load test.
SLI94RAGM
Duracell Ultra Platinum AGM 800CCA BCI Group 94R Car and Truck Battery

That’s the battery I have.
I don’t think it’s the greatest, but I hear they are not bad, just middle of the road. Definitely better than the original one and that lasted 5 years plus without an issue.
Again, the Jeep had no issues starting or running, it just would not charge the 12 volt battery. Either the generator or the 48volt battery seems to be the issue. I am going to bring it into the dealer and see if they can pull a code or figure out what happened.
The shop thought it was the generator, but it is working now. I believe someone else had an issue where they just disconnected the 12volt battery and then reconnected and everything worked. It was super f’n cold out. Dash showed -30f and probably -40 to -50 with windchill where I was at.

Another weird thing about this, maybe it’s just me, but when researching batteries for a JL everyone list group size 48. My JL has a 94R which is a bigger beefier battery. Most sites also list the 94R battery but for the 2.0 without start stop. They also list it having two batteries and list the super small aux battery, not even sure if that was offered in 18 with the 2.0. This was an early production 18 I believe also so maybe they changed some specs part way through the year as the JK was still offered that year, maybe using up inventory.

To add to this, teslas have been having issues up here this week even. I believe they have lithium batteries also….
