2.0T Muffler delete?

So I just ordered my 2022 Willys Xtreme Recon 2.0T. One of the first MODs I'm looking to do is remove that gigantic rear muffler off the rear end of the Jeep. That thing has got to be at least 30lbs. Also I'm sure it hits everything while off roading.

My question is if I do a simple rear muffler delete will it mess with the air and fuel ratio being that this is a Turbo engine. My logic tells me yes. I know Turbo engines can be finicky to MODs without a tune.

I should also note from the videos I watched I actually really like the sound over stock. Not really why I'm doing it but at least that's a bonus.

Anyone do this without a tune and have any issues?

I put a muffler delete on like that one when the Jeep was stock, yes it saved a bit of weight but the drone did get a little annoying during off roading especially during long climbs (we are in a 2023 2door hard top) bust most of all I felt the 2.0T was not as nice, when we lifted it and added 35” tires we put the OEM exhaust back on felt the Jeep run better and gas mileage around town went back up about 1.5 mpg
I will just straighten out the exhaust tip if it gets misshapen

The point of the muffler is to reduce sound, it has nothing to do with exhaust pressure.

That being said, everything after the turbo can be deleted and replaced with a straight pipe with zero effect on the engine or turbo, on any vehicle with or without a turbo.

The fuel line is regulated by the car's computer, not by the air intake or exhaust. Also the exhaust is regulated by the engine output, so while straight piping portions or all of the exhaust may lessen chances of soot buildup or any sort of clogging in the future, it won't affect engine pressure at all.

The exhaust is simply and outlet line for engine waste. Movement flow in the exhaust as long as it's after the turbo, affects nothing on your vehicle. That being said, something as simple as only deleting the muffler, has equally no effect on the engine or exhaust pressure. At least not in any way that matters.

I did mind for about a year and put the muffler back on I couldn't stand it The drone was just too bad when cruising on the highway. Great around the city but when you're on cruise control at 60 miles an hour on the highway it just hurt my ears the drone

I put the buffer back on because even the expensive after market exhaust sound like Honda accords you can't make a V6 sound like a V8 and I wanted it to do that and I realized you're not going to get that nice deep sound

Just got the Flowmaster American Thunder axle-back installed on my JLUR 4xe today!

As many forum members have mentioned, you will definitely need to expand the pipe to get it to fit (I used a hydraulic exhaust pipe expander), but once it's expanded, it's a pretty straight forward install. I didn't have to temporarily uninstall/disconnect the rear sway bar (saw this recommendation on a YouTube install video), but you will have to tug on the stock exhaust pipe a little bit to allow the expanded pipe tip to go over the stock extension pipe. Furthermore, I was able to get the Flowmaster exhaust to get next to the dimple extrusion on the stock extension pipe (a problem some members ran into if the pipe wasn't expanded enough). As a result, the polished exhaust tip has very good clearance away from the frame, stock rear steel bumper, and trailer tow wiring harness (even with the bulkier/heavy duty Metalcloak tow wire harness skid plate).

I did a quick drive throughout the city to see how it sounded. During the initial warm-up of the 2.0T, the sound was louder than expected (even with the windows up). It was enough to make me think that something was really wrong with my 4xe. Anyway, I unintentionally instigated a Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk into revving their engine to "compete" with me. However, once the 2.0T has finished warming up, the sound significantly decreased to tolerable levels: it reminded me of a similar sound level as my '15 JKUS that had the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back exhaust installed.

So far, outside of the loud warm-up, I like the overall sound, and I'm happy that I don't have to see the stock muffler from the back anymore. While Flowmaster has gotten a lot of flak for the inadequately expanded pipe, the overall anatomy of the American Thunder axle-back exhaust allows it to be tucked away more than other popular high-clearance exhaust options (Borla, MBRP, Magnaflow, Pypes, etc.): the exhaust sits above the rear sway bar, but it doesn't rub against the underbody heat shield.

Anyway, while the muffler delete doesn't make the 4xe sound like a V8, my initial impressions are positive (although I'm hoping that I don't eat my words after I do some highway driving and off-roading), and I'm happy with the purchase and install.

I got rid of it on mine after about a year. The drone was just too loud it ignored me going down the road at 60 or 70 it was just that drone just got on my nerve after a while I put stock my phone back on after about a year Like I said that drone will get you after a while sounds cool during this drive through the city but we're on the highway during 60 and cruising It's just a loud drone and gets annoying after a while

Fair enough. I usually have the radio on loudly when I do highway driving, so I guess only time will tell with respect to whether the drone gets me or not. If this axle-back exhaust is anything like the cat-back exhaust I had for my previous Wrangler, the drone didn't bother me/was minimal enough to not worry about it. Obviously, that is a subjective preference for every driver.

Trust me it's louder that drone Friends of mine have the aftermarket exhaust and it was nothing like that I even had people pull beside me and say what kind of exhaust is that That noise is horrible lol. The flowmaster is impossible to get on I even went to a muffler shop and he had a hard time getting it on The other company makes one just like it I can't think of the company there's bolts right on slides right over but the flowmaster is hard to get on for some reason. And I read that but I thought well I'll get it cuz I'll have a muffler shop put it on He even had a hard time took him over an hour to get it on He was banging and pushing I'm trying to think of the other company that makes one but they're slides right on. Keep us up Daddy let me know if it gets to you It's just really loud for me after year people complain also saying I can't even hear the radio I can't hear you talk It just hurt my ears I didn't want to give it up cuz it sounded so cool around the city driving you know taking off and but just on the highway driving it was just so horrible We loud but you may like it let us know if you end up getting rid of it and taking it off
