Just got my hood vents this morning…and literally just finished installing…keeping raw aluminum to match everything. A smidge annoying to do solo(but I banged it out)…going out to Easter jeep safari today so I’ll see how this performs in the heat(since it’s already high 90’s low 100’s where I live)..

dropped 2 nuts and washers(thank goodness there’s spares)

Now for all you that like the plastic hood vent thing but want it to be fuggin functional…keeps hood liner and lets heat out and not let water in
-otb designs

I went Motobilt bc I like there products I have on the rig

I like them. Id be curious to see if it makes any real difference with under hood temps.

even for aesthetics they look good. Temperature reduction would be a nice bonus

Well I can tell you I just drove from my house 35 miles to Costco to get non communist California priced gas….temp climbed up to a 215(where it normally would climb to 223-228 in this stupid ass traffic)…it’s 92 outside…got to Costco and my temp teleported back down to 198. And it’s definitely venting out this heat…however it’s probably to do with me running in combination the Motobilt high clearance inner fenders + the hood vents…..

my thought was stemming from middle school science “heat rises” so that’s why I got motobilts inner fenders as to Genright…and was looking for hood vents to aid in this heat soak problem me….and everyone else deals with out here in the southwest…these vents are definitely warmer than balls and my hood is chilly

Differential pressure is what causes air movement; convection is not that significant when the vehicle is moving. Here's a map of the hood of a JK. The green line is the point where the pressure above the hood is greater than that under it, so hood vents start to work backwards.

Right on. Either way I’m glad I put vents on my rig.

so the hood vents are sucking in ambient air? Which is cooler than under the hood air….

with his fender liner vents, would that create pass through air flow of some sort?

They appear to be quite covered up for water diversion. So how exactly is all that heat escaping from the engine bay out the covered vents to the outside world?

There’s a gap between the drip tray and the bottom of the hood…this has got my gears spinning in my head, thinking about modifying my oem vents using some of Motobilt’s ideas……🤓

I did this a while ago. Water hasn’t been an issue. I can see heat waves coming out of the vents idling offroad which is all I care about. We also don’t get an Inch of rain in 10 minutes like you might in Florida.

Yeah, one of the main reasons I haven’t done anything with them yet…. Besides the inches per minute, there’s also no warning, it clouds up and pisses on you in under a minute..🤣

We’ve been there a couple of times on vacation and when the skies open up, just making a dash from a restaurant to your car you might as well have jumped into a swimming pool.

Is that a replacement for the factor "vents"? It doesn't look like you too a drill bit to them.

Increasing air movement in either direction under the hood is a win imo…..
Not always. You dont want to increase the air pressure behind the radiator
