Figured I should put a build thread together for this thing. I got it in May of 2019 and it has evolved like they all do over the years. I am looking forward to some more changes this year.

I started with a 2018 sport because I knew that I was going to gut the axles and wanted to run 40's. I also found a great deal on a jeep that had been on a dealers lot for 9 months. Ran the Metalcloak 3.5" gamechanger with 37's on the stock axles for a bit while Fusion built me a custom set of D60's. Once those arrived I installed a set of 40's and 2 weeks later was in the Rubicon breaking it in right.

2018 JLU Sport 2.0T with E-torque.
MetalCloak 4.5" long arm kit,

Hey @CloakedWillys,

Jeep is looking dialed! How do you like your lighting package at the moment? I see you had S1 as knuckle lights and swapped them out for a pair of squadrons! How do you like that setup?

Best,
Bill

I am loving the light package. Running LP9's on the bumper now with Squadron pros on the knuckles and a S2 sport on the tailgate.

Hey @CloakedWillys,

Amazing! With the set of Squadron Pros, do they rub on anything at full lock or when compressed?

I'm looking forward to seeing how much this evolves throughout the year!

Best,
Bill

I don't have any clearance issues with them. The D60's give me some more room. I was able to cycle check it on our CTI trailer to make sure. I know the guys over at GateKeeper normally run the S1's because they do fit better on the JL axles.

How much has this mechanical build cost you so far; Jeep cost, parts cost, labor cost? Exclude things like lights and radio.

Some things we just don't talk about. LOL.

Labor wise I have done all the work on the jeep outside of the long arms that got installed as part of the R&D.

I'm just curious how much cost savings there is from buying a Rubicon and doing all this work. You'd save on lockers and disconnect, whatever else you get. Just a curiosity thing.

When I got mine it had been on a lot for 9 months so they wanted it gone. I got it for 40K OTD at that time a Rubicon would have been 55K. Looking at the cost of regear and shafts on the Rubicon, I did the Sport with axles for about the same total.

What rear shelf are you running? I like the idea of the shelf to load a tire when traveling, but for around town keeping it off.
