Something that sounds technical, but it's not.
Showing a friend the new Gladiator adds and I noticed a new Mopar accessory.

I like this as a possible option for cold air induction. Even better if this is the snorkel mount and you can go with or without the full snorkel. Contacted All Things Mopar and they have no information on it yet. Should be interesting once it comes out.

I want to say I seen on youtube where the TFL guys take a mopared out JL to the desert with mopar reps and it had one of these. It could also connect a snorkel with it.

It is in fact the connection point for the MOPAR snorkel.

Ok... quite possibly a stupid question. I looked at the MOPAR snorkel instructions and it cautioned that the snorkel will keep water from the engine, but that other components and systems are not designed to be submerged beyond the 30" stock limit. What's the point of a snorkel if other stuff gets messed up when you go deeper than 30"? Is it just that you'll limit damage and save the engine? Or is Mopar just being overly cautious and liability shackled?

Yeah that's the snorkel attach point. You have to cut your hood. Also that top picture shows no snorkel because they put the windshield down and it won't fit like that.

Water is only one reason for a snorkel, the other and bigger reason (in many people's opinion) is dust. Picking up clean, cool air from up at the top of the windshield will help keep the engine running a little cooler and extend the air filter life quite a bit.

I think of the snorkel as an "oh shit" accessory instead of a "watch this" one. The reason Mopar has a 30" limit isn't necessarily the air intake, there are numerous vent lines set at 30" or more as well as sensitive electronics.

Of all the things that shouldn't have water in them, the engine is the most important, especially in the "oh shit" situation. Get a little water in a differential isn't going to immobilize your Jeep. If you can't listen to your SeriusXM 24 hour Glenn Miller station but you crossed a river getting your family to safety, it'll be worth it in most peoples eyes.

So it's easier and more practical to justify a snorkel to a spouse with excuses like "cleaner air", "cooler air", might even give you "0.0001 MPG improvement", but I feels it's more of an insurance policy. I'd rather have one and never need it, than stranded somewhere in a life or death situation and wish I had one.

Just my opinion on it.

Love that pic, Dirt Every Day! That episode was great, I believe that it was an R2.8 Diesel install on a TJ. The "Snorkel" was like 12ft long. What a great show, too bad that Motortrend is trying to cash in on viewers.

Lets take a poll. YES or NO
Would you cut your hood to install the Mopar Factory Snorkel?

I vote YES. I think water or not... it's simply badass.

LOL, I actually plan on getting one just 'cause my gf has spent a lot of time in Africa and thinks snorkels look cool and keeps telling me to get one.

Who am I to argue if the little lady is insisting I buy Jeep accessories?????

You can buy the snorkel today... the CAI which is what the pic shows is not available yet, which is odd since it seems to be the first half of the snorkel. Go to allmoparparts, forum sponsor snorkel is $611.

Any issues with wind noise at higher speeds with the snorkel? Id love to get one too but most of my driving Monday-Friday is highway speeds.

NO

Because that thing is HIDEOUS!

I'll wait to see if AEV does something for the JL's. Their JK "raised air intake" is a lot nicer in terms of design and fitment. And as someone who already owns an AEV "raised air intake" on another vehicle, I kind of prefer the system looks good and looks like it belongs on the vehicle. And not some sort of an afterthought. I can't believe they went around the antenna. Geez.

I saw an air intake that replaces the passenger side cowl, but I forgot who made it. Not sure if it is in market yet either? Anyone know what I'm trying to describe?
