Hi all,

First time Jeep owner here. I took ownership of my 2018 JL Unlimited Sport with the 2.0 engine in the beginning of February with 238 miles on it. I was pretty enthused to get this vehicle, but as of today I'm feeling quite the opposite. First issue I had with the vehicle was that my phone didn't work with the radio as soon as I drove it off the lot. An initial call could be made or received, but once the call ended there would be a loud pop over the speakers. After that neither party could hear each other for any incoming or outgoing calls. At first I thought this issue could be corrected with a software update from Android Auto so I waited a bit. The radio ended up being defective so it was replaced. On my way home from getting the initial diagnostic done for the radio I had my check engine light come on and while driving on the highway at 70 mph the engine would lose power. I got to my daughter's house, called the dealership, turned around to go back and had the power loss issue happen 3 more times while driving on the highway to get to the dealership. After they ran another diagnostic they stated it was an oil pressure code and that the after the first diagnostic was done they were supposed to do a recalibration and that was the cause of the power loss issue. The service dept fixed the issue within a half hour and I was good to go. All of these issues occurred towards the end of March. Fast forward to this past weekend on Sunday- while out running errands a flashing check engine light came on, and the stop/start error message came one as well. The engine would then shudder at idle and while driving the engine would shudder and hesitate to shift gears, and was a good deal louder than normal. I called the dealership that day, had it towed to the dealership yesterday, and then found out about 2 hours ago today that there was signficant low oil and a significant amount of damage to the engine and it needs to be replaced. I have under 2800 miles on this Jeep and have only driven it on-road. According to the NYS new car lemon laws there has to be multiple attempts to repair the vehicle before it can be eligible for a buy back. At this point I'm not feeling I want it at all and am very disappointed in this vehicle.☹Opinions, suggestions or anyone with similar experiences? Please let me know. Thanks!

Sorry for being long-winded and not very knowledgeable when it comes to the technical aspects of vehicles in advance!

Hi Algonquin! Fellow Tonawandan here. Curious to which dealer you purchased the JLU from? I have a 2019 3.6 JLUS with some issues, but nothing as major as yours sounds. Bought in Lockport, but serviced at Northtown. Not loving the experience so far.

Get @JeepCares involved for starters. Some people have mentioned having hose issues that may be the trigger for the idiot lights. There are definite quality control issues coming off the line. Sorry to hear about your experience so far.

Your Jeep will get fixed and then you can sell it.

Hi Mean Peach!

I got my Jeep through Cecconi's and I've taken it there for all the service as well.

That sounds like an awful service department, they never should have sent a vehicle out with a low oil pressure code without actually diagnosing it. Testing the pressure sender, hooking up a pressure gauge, dropping the pan and inspecting the pickup, inspecting the pump, etc

I doubt they did anything beyond checking the oil level on the dipstick, resetting the light and sent you on your way.

Oh make sure they replace the turbo as well, not sure if the new engine will be a long block or short block, but turbos do NOT live very long when oil starved.

Hi Algonquin 75,
We are truly sorry to hear about this! We completely understand how disappointing this may be, considering how new your Jeep is. Please send us a private message so we can have this documented and escalated to the appropriate party for further handling.

Hi Desync,

Thanks for your advice regarding the turbo replacement. I will look into that. As mentioned in my first post the check engine light didn't come on until after I left the dealership and was en route to my daughter's house. Once I called the service dept to describe the issue and came back they were able to fix the issue right away. Thus far they have been very helpful and accomodating. It just seems that I got a dud vehicle :(

Was the oil leaking or was it a low fill from factory?? With only 2800 miles on motor seems like low fill from factory. Or you would be smoking like a bandit to burn off that much oil with that mileage..

Hi,

There were no leaks whatsoever, and no warning lights outside of the 2 check engine lights I experienced (Mid-March and this past Sunday 4/14).

Sorry to hear about what your going through.. hopefully everything gets fixed, I hate hearing stories like this, my Jeep keeps me on edge as well, hopefully Jeep steps up and addresses everyone’s problems and fears.. but like I said in another post, I kind of feel we’ll all be put on the back step, while they focus on the gladiator.. I just wish they would have focused on perfecting the Jeep before focusing on a whole other vehicle...way to complicate things Jeep!!!

I'm simply curious . . . is this a dealer customer tester-vehicle or was it a used vehicle returned or traded ? Or something else ? My 1st reaction was - flood damage vehicle or lemon that the previous owner traded back without telling dealer of all the issues ( sneaky ) ? Your probably in for a long arduous journey but I hope your able to weather the storm and come out with a new vehicle of choice that WORKS as intended . Best of Luck .

Hi Lou3.6,

As far as I understand it was a brand new vehicle as that is how it was presented to me. The mileage would indicate to me that it was a customer tested vehicle. As of today it would seem that the potential long arduous journey has begun, based on the response I received from my salesperson earlier. Thoughts need to be collected and a polite but firm response needs to be given. You attract more bees with honey as they say!

Given your car had 238 miles on it when you bought it brand new, and now your new motor is toast, this possibly could be the result of (but in No Way proves, by any means) that some fool idiot(s) may have been jamming it full throttle, and revving it up to its red line, prior to even coming up to operating temp, and well, well before it was anywhere near broken in, when brand spanking new, to "test drive it." In any event, if at all possible, I'd Lemon Law it out, just as soon as eligible and/or if possible, and consider ordering a new Jeep. This time, order it factory fresh from the factory, and take delivery with maybe just 2 or 3 miles on the odometer. This way, you can rest ensured no numbskull fool idiots beat it to death "testing it."
