I'm looking for a 10k synthetic winch and narrowed it down to Quadratec Stealth or Smittybilt x20. The Stealth is about $50 more and after looking at the specs, I dont understand why a person would choose the Quadratec. Both are made in China and the x20 seems to have better specs(HP, line length, line speed, IP68 vs. 67, etc.). Am I missing something?

I'm in the same boat, I just got done chatting with Justin from Quadratec, they gave me a discount down to $569.99 for the stealth 10k, smittybuilts X20s are on sale at 4wp as well as Smittybuilt.com for $428. I was really hopping they would match Smittybuilts price. I would really like to do buisness with them because they are doing a great job shaking up the vendor market. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with smittybuilt

Nice! on their site now, this makes the decision that much harder, do you have a smittybuilt? I've heard such mixed reviews. So, I'm nervous about pulling the trigger on one.
I don’t. I found that while researching winches myself.

this is a harder decision than I thought! I also don't lke how the hook is perminant. I really don't want to have to cut the hook/rope just to remove it. but for $150 cheaper, I would probably chew it off. Thats a fair amount of money towards more Jeep stuff!!

I just installed the X20 10k last week. I paid $470 on amazon.

....they sent me a XRC with steel rope on the drum first (box was labeled as a X20)....but they exchanged it fast.

Only using it a couple times I’ve been satisfied with it. Looks and feels well made, wireless remote works well. I only have two minor complaints with it. The description online and on the box both say the synthetic rope comes with a thermal shield for the rope. It does not. Only a short moveable abrasion guard (held on by Velcro). The other was an issue with the casting on the bottom. It has recesses for square nuts to be inserted to accept mounting bolts from the bottom. One recess had a flaw in its casting to where the nut wouldn’t go in. Easily fixed with a hammer though.

Cable lengths are perfect. They reach right to the battery with enough slack to route the cables out of the way.

Anybody know what the quadratec winch offers better than the x20 to justify paying more $? It looks inferior based on the specs.

I had decided on the Quadratech Stealth right up to the point I saw the sale on the X20. I received the X20 from @Northridge4x4 this week and will install this weekend. I'll use the hook for now but eventually put on a Factor 55 splicer shackle mount instead. Splicing looks simple enough if you follow readily available recommendations.

Good deal...what does the factor 55 do vs. using the hook?

We sell a lot of the Smittybilt winches and have had very few problems. They do have a lifetime warranty, so if you do have a problem, just contact our returns dept. and they will help get you back up and running.

It is an overseas built winch and the price reflects it, especially the sale price that's going on now. Where else can you find a 10K with synthetic rope and aluminum fairlead for under $420.00?

Want to spend even less? We also have the 10K winch with steel line and roller fairlead for $319.95!

If you go with the Factor55 Prolink or Flatlink you won't have to do any splicing, they'll go right on the thimble end of that Smittybilt Winch after you cut the hook off.

Splicing is a great skill to learn, especially if you own synthetic line. You can learn it online or find a class put on by an I4WDTA (Intl. 4WD Trainers Association) instructor in your area. The guys over at Masterpull winch ropes taught me to splice many years ago, but never really practiced it much until this past year when I started going through training to become an I4WDTA instructor.

My favorite tool is the Factor55 Fast Fid.

It's not needed to do splicing, you can even do splicing with a knitting needle or a ball point pen, though the Fast Fid sure makes it easier.

Creates what is called a "closed loop recovery system" meaning everything is securely connected, no chance for a hook (or other connection) to slip off.

Pros and Cons to both.
